Miami Heat vs. Los Angeles Lakers Game 3 Picks
Sunday, October 4, 2020 – 7:30 PM EST. ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Orlando, Fl
Heat opened as a 9-point underdog on the NBA odds with a total of 219.
Heat Will Never Give Up No Matter What
Even though the Miami Heat brought a much better effort in Game 2, it wasn’t enough to get a win as they went on to lose 124-114. Without Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic on Friday, Kelly Olynyk was a big contributor off the bench with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Jimmy Butler did everything in his power to keep his team close as he led them with 25 points, 13 assists, and 8 rebounds in 45 minutes of play.
Coach Eric Spoelstra will need to see a lot more of that, plus key contributions from players like Kendrick Nunn, Tyler Herro, and Duncan Robinson. They will need to start playing like their old self if Miami wants to win a game. "We don't care what everybody else thinks. What will it take? Whatever is necessary. Simple as that. If you want something badly enough, you'll figure it out. Our group is stubborn and persistent, and we just need to figure out how to overcome this opponent." -Erik Spoelstra after the Game 2 loss.
This is the first time Miami has lost consecutive games this postseason, and they are 35-15-1 ATS in their last 51 games following a straight up loss.
Will The Lakers Continue To Dominate?
The Los Angeles Lakers have dominated the first two games of the Finals, using their size and length to their advantage. LeBron James and Anthony Davis have been the best two players on the floor and it’s been very hard to contain them. These boys look like Shaq and Kobe the way they have been balling throughout the first couple of games. Anthony Davis has used his size advantage to average 33 points and 11.5 rebounds, as he looks like the frontrunner for Finals MVP. LeBron James is right behind him averaging 29 points with 11 rebounds and looks primed to pick up his 4th championship.
It’s important for the Lakers to not get too comfortable and keep focus at the task at hand. We’ve seen teams get complacent, and that could easily let a team like the Heat get right back in this series. It will be interesting to see if L.A. can put their foot down in this pivotal Game 3. "Until we win four games, we haven't accomplished our goal. It's been over a year together, and we've talked about the same goal from Day 1. We're still here chasing that same goal. Until we get four wins, we're staying hungry." -Alex Caruso.
The NBA Pick
With Miami fighting for their playoff lives, expect them to come out in the first half with a sense of urgency. Down 0-2, it’s the last stand for Jimmy Butler and company to make this a series again. If there was ever a game that the Heat could win/cover in this series, it’s definitely tonight. For today’s NBA prediction, I’m riding with the Heat +5 in the first half to come out with desperation.
