When the Los Angeles Clippers visit the New York Knicks they will do so once again without Blake Griffin, they face one of the hottest teams in the East in the Knicks. Check our NBA pick here.

Betting Analysis
NBA odds makers have set the total for this game at 202.5 and the Clippers favorite by 1.5 points. This number actually seems a bit low considering the last few games these teams have had some high finals. When we look closely at the matchups and the pace though it starts to make more sense so for one of my selection I will back under the total.

Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers are averaging 104.8 points per game while shooting 46.1% from the field, and allowing 101 points per game on 43.6% shooting from the field. They are right at 50% overall on their over/under totals this season going 20-20-1, but 11-7-1 on the road. Without Griffin they have not missed a beat and offensively they rank fourth in the league in points scored per game. As well on this side of the ball they have been one of the most efficient teams in the league ranking seventh in shooting efficiency and fourth in effective field goal percentage. The Clippers also rank fifth averaging 50.4% on their two point shooting and 36.4% from beyond the arc. However, tonight they face a good New York defense that defends from the inside out really well and ranks as one of the best teams in the league in defending from distance. On top of this L.A. does not push the pace but rely more on their efficiency averaging just 83.3 field goal attempts per game which ranks 20th in the league.  Defensively, although they rank in the middle of the league in defensive scoring the Clippers have solid percentages across the board. They rank in the top ten in opponent shooting efficiency and effective field goal percentage, as well as opponent two point and three point shooting percentages. They defend the perimeter well and only allow 21 assists per game which ranks 10th in the NBA.

New York Knicks
The Knicks average 99.7 points per game while shooting 44.3% from the field, and allow 100.4 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the field. They are 24-19-1 overall on their over/under totals and 12-8-1 at home, but recently they have gone 8-2 on the over in their last ten games, 5-0 in their last five. Offensively they are still a bit stagnant and only average 84.1 field goal attempts per game which ranks 18th in the league.  They also rank in the bottom part of the league in most offensive categories and rank 19th or worse in shooting efficiency, effective field goal percentage, and two and three point shooting percentages. Where they do get it done is on the other side of the ball and defensively they are one of the best in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks should match up well around the perimeter, where the Clippers shoot at a high percentage, as they rank ninth and fourth in opponent two point and three point shooting percentage respectively. More impressively they rank second in the league allowing opponents just 6.9 three pointers made per game, this is due to them limiting attempts to just 21.3 per contest.  Tonight I like how the Knicks match up with the Clippers on this side of the ball, and with Los Angeles coming off a back to back they should be proficient in getting stops.

Taking over the total is not the way to go in this game tonight, I believe the value is on the under. For one of your NBA picks I recommend backing these teams to stay well below the number in what should be a better defensive battle than people anticipate.
