The covert tanking from Los Angeles will continue tonight in Toronto; hence, the host Raptors are big favorites. However, the real value for your NBA picks is in the first-half total.

As is evident by their defense and losing five of their last six SU, the Los Angeles Clippers have no desire to win games. They have decided that the West is too tough right now, and they should grab a top-14 draft pick and re-evaluate things.

It’s probably the right move, and you can almost see it in the way they play. Since the All-Star break the Clippers are playing at a first-half pace of 105.5 possessions per game.

That pace has led to a strong offensive rating as the new-look Clippers look to run more. But, it’s also hurting their defense. In first halves it gets more noticeable, too, because L.A. likes to start games up-tempo.

With a first-half total in tonight's game set at 115½ on the NBA odds board, and the Raptors averaging 61.6 first-half points in their last five games, Toronto will be more than happy to match pace and get up and down the court.

The Raptors have superior guard play, and that can be a huge advantage if your opponent is sloppy with the ball. L.A. ranks 20th in the league, averaging 14.8 turnovers per game, and the Raptors are forcing that exact amount of turnovers per game.

With the Clippers giving up 119 points per game and 59 per first half over their last five, look for the Raptors to drop 60-plus in the first half. L.A. should be right there with them, so with your NBA picks opt for the "over" on the first-half total.
