Clippers Hire Tyronn Lue As Top Assistant Coach

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that “Former Cavaliers championship coach Ty Lue has agreed on deal to join the Los Angeles Clippers as the top assistant coach on Doc Rivers’ staff.”

Lue was an assistant coach for the Celtics and Clippers under Doc Rivers before joining the Cavaliers as an associate head coach in 2014. He was considered a top candidate to coach the Lakers and almost signed with them but the deal fell apart due to a disagreement on contract terms.

The Cavaliers fired Lue after an 0–6 start last season but the team went 128–83 and won the 2016 NBA Championship during his three-plus years as their head coach.

The Clippers have one of the most talented duos in the NBA after signing Kawhi Leonard and trading for Paul George and they will bring back most of the core that won 48 games last season and pushed a Warriors team led by Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to six games in the first round of the playoffs.

Clippers Starting Lineup & Roster

*Notates expected starter

C: Ivica Zubac*, Montrezl Harrell, Mfiondu Kabengele
PF: Maurice Harkless*, JaMychal Green, Patrick Patterson
SF: Paul George*, Terance Mann

With Doc Rivers, a former NBA champion as their head coach, Lue as his top assistant, Kawhi Leonard, a two-time NBA Champion and NBA Finals MVP and Paul George, one of the best two-way players in the league, the Clippers are clearly the team to beat, not only in the Western Conference.
