Clippers Free Agency: JaMychal Green & Kenneth Faried Are Potential Targets For Frontcourt Depth

The Clippers just became the best team, not just in Los Angeles but in the entire NBA. They’re bringing back most of their core, which won 48 games and pushed a Warriors team with Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to six games in the first round of the playoffs and they added Leonard and George, who combined to average 54.6 points, 15.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 5.7 3-pointers and 4.0 steals last season.

While the Clippers have a much more rounded out roster than most teams, they still have needs to fill. Montrezl Harrell can be their starting power forward or center but frontcourt depth would help this team and Harrell was formidable off the bench, averaging 16.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 26.09 minutes over 77 games as a reserve.

Clippers Roster With Kawhi Leonard & Paul George

*Notates expected starter

C: Montrezl Harrell*, Ivica Zubac, Mfiondu Kabengele
PF: Maurice Harkless*
SF: Paul George*, Terance Mann
SG: Kawhi Leonard*, Landry Shamet, Jerome Robinson, Rodney McGruder
PG: Patrick Beverley*, Lou Williams

George can also start at power forward (like when the Thunder had Carmelo Anthony at the three) and Leonard can be their starting small forward, giving Landry Shamet a more prominent role at shooting guard but they could pursue JaMychal Green, who shined in 24 games (two starts) with them last season, averaging 8.7 points and 6.5 rebounds in 19.6 minutes.

Another player the Clippers could get on a cheap minimum deal is Kenneth Faried, who produced at a high level for the Rockets in the regular season, averaging 12.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 24.4 minutes over 25 games (13 starts) but saw his playing time decrease significantly in the playoffs.

Monta Ellis has been out of the league since the 2016-17 season but he’s looking to make a comeback and he would be a strong fit for the Clippers. Ellis averaged 17.8 points, 4.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals over 833 career games with the Warriors, Bucks, Mavericks and Pacers and he can provide another scoring spark off the bench and make this team even more dangerous.

Marcus Morris could also help the Clippers. Last season only Luka Doncic and Paul George averaged as many points, defensive rebounds and 3-point field goals per 36 minutes as him and he shot 45.0 percent from 3-point range in nine playoffs games with the Celtics.
