LeBron James, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony, three of the four banana boat crew members may not play together next season but that doesn't stop them from getting in offseason workouts together.

James is still one of the best players in the NBA but Paul and Anthony are in very different situations right. Once superstars like their friend, CP3 was recently traded to the Thunder and Melo is still a free agent.

It is nearly impossible for the Lakers to land Chris Paul given his contract situation but they could use their additional roster spot on Carmelo Anthony.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

\"We got half hoodie CP, full hoodie Melo, and 3/4 hoodie Bron.” 💪😂

(via @KingJames, @CP3) ;/a>
— NBA on TNT (@NBAonTNT) August 9, 2019
"}[/]

The Thunder have tried to trade Paul but he could be on their roster when the new NBA season begins in October.

Moving CP3 seemed like the next logical step once OKC acquired him in the trade that sent Russell Westbrook to the Rockets but the potential market for him has dried up.

The Thunder worked with Paul and his representatives to find a deal that benefits both sides but ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the team and the star point guard believe there are benefits to having him spend the season with them.

The Westbrook-Paul trade happened far into free agency and not many contenders have the flexibility to take on Paul, who will make $124 million over the next three years. OKC may re-examine their options once most of the newly signed free agents become eligible to be traded on December 15, or after next season ends.

CP3 averaged career-lows with 15.6 points on 41.9 percent shooting in 32.0 minutes over 58 games with the Rockets last season but he added 8.2 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals and shot 35.8 from 3-point range.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Chris Paul’s Best Plays With Rockets! ;/a>
— (@Ballislife) July 12, 2019
"}[/]

Carmelo Anthony, on the other hand, is still a free agent and his future in the NBA is up in the air.

While Anthony has averaged 24.0 points in 1064 career games (1056 starts) with the Nuggets, Knicks, Thunder and Rockets, he hasn't played in an NBA game since November 11, 2018 against the Thunder when he had just two points on 1-for-11 from the field (9.1 percent) and five rebounds over 20 minutes.

Melo signed a $2.4 million veteran's minimum deal with the Rockets last year but he played just 10 games for them before being traded to the Bulls for the draft rights of Tadija Dragićević. He never played a game in Chicago and was released in January.

The 10-time All-Star averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in 29.4 minutes per game with the Rockets and he looked great at Chris Brickley's Black Ops Basketball Run but teams seem to have given up on him.

Anthony appeared on ESPN's First Take last Friday and said:

"It strikes me that I'm not on a roster due to my talent, due to my skill. You're telling me there's 30 teams in the NBA, and I can't make a 15-man roster ... 1,000 percent [I can accept a lesser role]. I can do that.

I had to do that, I wasn't willing to do that in Houston because that wasn't what was relayed to me. It was, you are the piece that we need."

As a Carmelo Anthony fan, I hope someone gives him a chance because he can still contribute as a scorer off the bench.

Odds To Win The 2019-20 NBA Championship
(Courtesy of 5Dimes)

Los Angeles Clippers +435

Los Angeles Lakers +440

Milwaukee Bucks +575

Houston Rockets +675

Philadelphia 76ers +700

Golden State Warriors +950

Utah Jazz +1400

Denver Nuggets +2000

Boston Celtics +2800

Portland Trail Blazers +3300

Indiana Pacers +5000

Brooklyn Nets +5000

Toronto Raptors +6500

Dallas Mavericks +8500

San Antonio Spurs +9500

Miami Heat +10000

New Orleans Pelicans +10000

Sacramento Kings +20000

Orlando Magic +21500

Atlanta Hawks +27500

Detroit Pistons +28500

Minnesota Timberwolves +30000

Oklahoma City Thunder +35000

Memphis Grizzlies +50000

Chicago Bulls +50000

Phoenix Suns +55000

New York Knicks +60000

Washington Wizards +70000

Cleveland Cavaliers +100000

Charlotte Hornets +150000
