NBA odds boards have made the home Cavaliers a strong double digit favorite in game two. Can Detroit stay close to them again?

Odds makers have made Detroit a +10 underdog like at Pinnacle Sports -108. For one of my NBA picks I will back the Pistons in this spot and look for them to keep this game a lot closer than most people anticipate. It is really hard to think that Stan Van Gundy won’t have a solid game two plan.

Detroit Pistons
In game one the Pistons shot over 50% from the floor and over 51% from beyond the arc but only got up 73 attempts, well below their 86 per game average. The Pistons had every opportunity to win this game and went into the fourth quarter up two.

They got what they wanted for the most part but they were hurt by 10 turnovers and simply not getting to the pace and tempo they are normally accustomed. Defensively they did a nice job for the most part holding the Cavs to some reasonable numbers but something they will need to focus on more in game two is reversing the tables on them as far as tempo and shot attempts, which is something I believe they can accomplish.

A bit surprising was that Cleveland got up 15 more shot attempts than Detroit which is something I am sure SVG will address for game two. Another issue to address will be rebounding as the Cavs grabbed 51 compared to the Pistons 43 when on the season Detroit was the better rebounding team statistically. Check the NBA odds boards for more information of the teams.

Cleveland Cavaliers
In game one Cleveland shot 44.3% from the field and 34.3% from beyond the arc and got up 88 attempts. Cleveland is a better team when they get up as many shots as they did in game one but tend to struggle when teams get them down to below their 84 attempts per average on the season.

What I was most impressed about with the Cavs was their ability to hang on to the basketball turning over just four times. In game two I believe the point of contention will be about the pace though as Cleveland and Detroit put up numbers that are opposite of their season averages.

On the season the Pistons averaged 86 shot attempts per game which ranked them 7th in the NBA compared to the Cavs who ranked 19th at the 84 mentioned above.

Cleveland is a team that is more inclined to allow teams to push pace so I am anticipating for Detroit to find a way to get up more shots in game two and keep this game within arms- reach toward the end.
