Check out which two plays we feel hold value for Sunday's limited NBA action. Are you on the same wavelength with your sports picks?
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Memphis Grizzlies
We were expecting a lot more out of these teams, but the season is still young. The Grizzlies host the Timberwolves this evening and are home underdogs for the contest.
Memphis has been trying to stay afloat in spite of a head coaching change and some key injuries. Marc Gasol remains out indefinitely with a knee sprain, Quincy Pondexter (foot) will miss the rest of the season, and Tony Allen just returned from an injury as well.
Recent results have left a to be desired, with Memphis have lost four of five and seven of their last ten coming into tonight. On the year they're 10-12 SU and 7-14-1 ATS.
The Timberwolves have gone cold since a promising start to their season, but have looked better over their last few games. They topped Detroit (121-94) and Philadelphia (106-99) and then took San Antonio to the wire (117-110) on the road.
Though Minnesota's not performing at their best, they have had to deal with a brutal schedule lately. Their losses came against the likes of Oklahoma City, Indiana and Houston on the road and Miami and Denver at home. It's not like they're losing to scrub teams.
We just don't see how the Grizzlies will stop Kevin Love from dominating in all facets. He just torched the Spurs for 42 points (15-of-27 FG, 8-of-9 3P) and 14 rebounds and there's no reason to believe he can't match that effort against a shorthanded Memphis team.
Oddsmakers have Minnesota favored by three points here on the road and we see them coming through for backers. Love should have another huge night en route to a Timberwolves SU and ATS victory for our NBA picks.
NBA Pick: Minnesota Timberwolves -3
Orlando Magic vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder will try to preserve their spotless 11-0 home record when they entertain the Magic tonight. Current NBA odds have Oklahoma City favored by 13.5 points, with the O/U at 205.5.
Kevin Durant and company have been on a tear, reeling off five straight wins, four of which have been by double figures. They're coming off an easy 122-97 home victory over the Lakers, with Durant and Westbrook scoring a combined 50 points in only three quarters of play.
The Thunder have gone 7-4 ATS at home this season and welcome a Magic squad that's been a solid money-maker despite going 2-10 SU on the road. They're 7-5 against the spread outside of Orlando thus far.
That being said, the Magic are having a rough go of it recently. They've dropped seven of their previous eight and have covered the spread in just three of those games. There have been some promising signs to the season – Victor Oladipo appears to be the real deal, Arron Afflalo has become one of the most effective two guards in the league, and Glen Davis is healthy again and producing.
Yet it's highly unlikely the young Magic will be able to trade blow-for-blow with Oklahoma City tonight.
It's the first meeting of the season between these teams and we ultimately see the most value in the OVER. The Thunder have scored 104+ points in six straight games and are averaging a cool 108.3 points per contest at home so far this season.
Meanwhile, the Magic are surrendering 104.5 PPG on the road, setting the stage for a cashed ticket for the OVER in our eyes.
NBA Pick: OVER 205.5
