The Boston Celtics (47-32) visit Philips Arena to battle the Atlanta Hawks (47-32). The Hawks are favored by 5.5 points on the NBA odds board and the total is set at 206.

Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics have won four straight games and they're tied for third place in the Eastern Conference with the Atlanta Hawks, making this an extremely intriguing game. The Celtics are coming off a 124-109 home win against the Hawks last night behind a career-high 26 points from Tyler Zeller and 20 points from Isaiah Thomas.

The Celtics average 105.9 points per game (fourth in the league) and shoot 44.0 percent from the floor and 33. 4 percent from three-point range and they pull down 45.0 rebounds per game (sixth in the NBA). Boston allows 102.4 points per game and their opponents shoot 43.9 percent overall (fifth in the league) and 33.4 percent from beyond the arc (fourth in the NBA) and grab 46.1 rebounds per game.

Isaiah Thomas leads the Celtics with 22.4 points and 6.2 assists, Avery Bradley averages 15.2 points per game and Jae Crowder adds 14.4 points and a team-best 1.8 steals.

Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks are also playing decent basketball, winning their last two games, including a huge 95-87 home win against the Toronto Raptors last Thursday. The Hawks used a balanced attack, led by Jeff Teague with 23 points and 14 points from Kyle Korver. Paul Millsap scored 13 points and Al Horford, Mike Scott and Tim Hardaway Jr. each added 11.

The Hawks average 102.8 points per game (12th in the league) on 45.8 percent shooting overall (11th in the NBA) and 34.9 percent from beyond the arc and they grab 46.5 rebounds per game. Defensively, Atlanta gives up 98.9 points per game (sixth in the league) and their opponents shoot 43.0 percent from the floor (first in the NBA) and 33.7 percent from three-point range (fifth in the league) and pull down 46.5 rebounds per game.

Paul Millsap leads the Hawks with 17.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks, Jeff Teague averages 15.5 points and a team-best 5.9 assists and Al Horford adds 15.2 points and 7.2 rebounds.

Betting Trends
The Celtics are 11-7 ATS when playing on back-to-back days, 21-12 ATS revenging a loss against an opponent and 20-17 ATS when playing against a team with a winning record.

The Hawks are 21-19 ATS in home games, 7-6 ATS on Saturday games and 24-17 ATS when playing against a team with a winning record.

Final Analysis
The Hawks are a 5.5-point favorite on the NBA odds board and the total has been set at 206. Portland leads the season series with Minnesota 3-0 but all three meetings were decided by six points or less. The Hawks lead the season series against the Celtics 2-1, including a 109-101 win on December 18.

This is a very important game for both teams as it can alter the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference significantly. We can expect a playoff-type atmosphere in Atlanta because of what this contest can decide. Both teams look to make a statetement but the Hawks matchup well with the Celtics. I like Atlanta to win but I see Boston keeping things close and covering. I'm taking the Celtics +5.5 with my NBA picks.
