Denver and Cleveland hooked up a few days ago and it was one of the higher scoring games of the season, especially in the first half. There could be similar results in tonight's rematch.

One thing these two teams have in common is their slow starts in games, especially on defense. Even though neither team is very good defensively anyway, first halves have been especially rough on both of them.

According to NBA Stats, Denver and Cleveland rank 27th and 28th, respectively, in first-half defensive rating this season. They are allowing close to 111 points per 100 possessions in the first two quarters of games.

Take a look at the pace of the first half in their game Saturday. Denver led 73-62 at halftime (135 combined points) and not only was there little defense, but both were trying to play extremely fast:

Both teams were making shots, as well, but both were also trying to run out on almost every miss. If that continues tonight, along with their poor first-half defense, the first-half total looks ripe for an "over" play in your NBA picks.

Both teams play at paces of about 101 possessions per game in the first half, and they are a combined 23-20 cashing the full-game total "over" in non-conference games.

Combined with all this is the fact Denver is coming off a game Tuesday night. In games where the Nuggets play on no rest this season, they are 8-4 cashing the "over" and their average first-half combined score is more than 111 points.

As long as both teams play up in pace, this first-half total of 118 on the NBA odds board should be a nice "over" play. In Saturday's meeting the Nuggets were playing on no rest, and we should see another high-scoring first half tonight.
