At 8:05 ET this evening, you can tune in to watch the Atlanta Hawks as they visit the Boston Celtics in fabled Boston Garden. Let’s look inside the numbers to see why I favor Atlanta again tonight.

Atlanta Hawks (-7-) vs. Boston Celtics 8:05 ET ESPN

A quick look at the Eastern Conference standings tells us that these teams are having a dichotomous season, including an inverted home/road dichotomy.

Over the Christmas break, the Boston Celtics traded all-star point guard Rajon Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks.  It signaled a return to a youth movement by the Celtics.  Since that time, Boston has gone just 3-7 SU on NBA odds.  That includes a loss on this court to the only other winning team they have faced in that timeframe by a count of 119-101 to Dallas.  In 8 of those 10 games, the Celtics have allowed 100 or more points.  Even their strong home court has let them down.  For the YTD, Boston is 9-11 SU at home including just 3-5 ATS as home dog.  When these teams met earlier this season, Atlanta recorded a 109-105 home court victory on December 2nd.  That narrow 4 point win will have the Hawks on alert as they enter Boston Garden tonight.

Atlanta is the hottest team in the NBA right now, resulting in a conference leading 30-8 SU record.   Only Golden State has a better record in the NBA.  Entering tonight, Atlanta is on a run of 25-3 SU, 23-5 ATS.  The Hawks have won and covered 9 consecutive games.  In the last 6 of 8 recent victories have all come by 8 or more points.  This includes victories against quality teams from the West in Portland, LA Clippers and Memphis all by 8 or more points.  On the road this season, Atlanta stands 15-4 ATS, including 6-1 ATS in the role of road favorite.  As such, they are part of a group of NBA teams who stand 96-60 ATS as single digit road favorite. The Hawks lead the NBA in allowing just 97 PPG.  In addition, they are No. 1 in the league in assist to TO ratio.  Anyone who has read my articles on Defensive Dandies in CBKB understands the importance of that.  Must give some credit in that regard to HC Budenholzer, who spent 17 years on the San Antonio bench!

In each of the Hawks’ previous games, we have cashed with them as a Top Play.  We continue to ride their momentum as both the situation and statistics are in their favor so readers should add Atlanta to their NBA picks for tonights action.
