Free agent forward Carmelo Anthony had an early morning offseason workout with LeBron James and Chris Paul last Friday and he has also trained with Nets players.

Sources told Anthony Puccio and Ian Begley of sny.tv that Anthony has been participating in informal team workouts and scrimmages with Nets players in Los Angeles.

Anthony appeared on ESPN's First Take on August 2 and said that he and his representatives have been in touch with teams like the Lakers and Clippers about potentially signing a contract for next season.

Puccio and Begley said: "It is unknown if the Nets are one of the teams that Anthony and his representatives have talked to about a potential signing. The club's interest level in signing Anthony to a contract is also unknown."

Carmelo Anthony has had a great career, averaging 24.0 points in 1064 games (1056 starts) with the Nuggets, Knicks, Thunder and Rockets but he hasn't played in an NBA game since November 11, 2018 against the Thunder. That day he scored just two points on 1-for-11 from the field (9.1 percent) and grabbed five rebounds over 20 minutes.

He signed a $2.4 million veteran's minimum deal with the Rockets last year and played in just 10 games for them before being traded to the Bulls for the draft rights of Tadija Dragićević. Anthony never played a game for the Bulls and was released in January.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Happy birthday to one of the best scorers ever, Carmelo Anthony!

Just in case you forgot, here's Melo putting people on posters for a minute straight. 🗣 pic.twitter.com/UwYMyaEmM0
— Timeless Sports (@timelesssports_) May 29, 2019
"}[/]

The 10-time NBA All-Star averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in 29.4 minutes per game with the Rockets and while he looked great at Chris Brickley's Black Ops Basketball Run, teams seem to have given up on him because of the idea that he is not willing to have a reduced role, which is not true. He appeared on ESPN's First Take on August 2 and said:

"It strikes me that I'm not on a roster due to my talent, due to my skill. You're telling me there's 30 teams in the NBA, and I can't make a 15-man roster ... 1,000 percent [I can accept a lesser role]. I can do that.

I had to do that, I wasn't willing to do that in Houston because that wasn't what was relayed to me. It was, you are the piece that we need."

Anthony thrived with the Nuggets and Knicks because he was the first option on offense but right now he is more suited to be a sixth man or rotation player off the bench. As a Melo fan, I hope someone gives him a chance because he can still contribute to an NBA team.

Nets guard Caris LeVert said on ESPN's The Jump earlier this month that Kyrie Irving was the one who organized their recent workouts.

Josh Hicks of Chicago's Regal Radio told this to Heavy.com's Brandon 'Scoop B' Robinson yesterday: "He could be a bench player asset to play and may be a good cheap replacement in a sense for KD this season."

If the Nets were interested in signing Carmelo Anthony they would need to waive a player to give him a traditional NBA deal, as they already have 15 players under guaranteed contracts.

Odds To Win The NBA Championship
(Courtesy of 5Dimes)

Los Angeles Clippers +435

Los Angeles Lakers +440

Milwaukee Bucks +575

Houston Rockets +675

Philadelphia 76ers +700

Golden State Warriors +950

Utah Jazz +1400

Denver Nuggets +2000

Boston Celtics +2800

Portland Trail Blazers +3300

Brooklyn Nets +5000

Indiana Pacers +5000

Toronto Raptors +6500

Dallas Mavericks +8500

San Antonio Spurs +9500

Miami Heat +10000

New Orleans Pelicans +10000

Sacramento Kings +20000

Orlando Magic +21500

Atlanta Hawks +27500

Detroit Pistons +28500

Minnesota Timberwolves +30000

Oklahoma City Thunder +35000

Memphis Grizzlies +50000

Chicago Bulls +50000

Phoenix Suns +55000

New York Knicks +60000

Washington Wizards +70000

Cleveland Cavaliers +100000

Charlotte Hornets +150000
