Two big injuries
Both teams are dealing with very important injured players, and while neither injuries are serious, both Jimmy Butler and David Lee have missed their team’s most recent game. Butler is dealing with a rib contusion, and reports out of Chicago just yesterday say that Butler is doing better, but is still experiencing some pain. That never is an indicator that he has a good chance to play tonight, because now that the Bulls are out of title contention, there is no reason to risk one of their better players who is definitely part of their future.
For the Warriors, David Lee missed two nights ago due to an illness, and even though it was reported that he traveled to Chicago to meet his teammates, his status for tonight is still up in the air as of this morning. Make sure you double-check any news out of Chicago after the Warriors’ shoot around. It could be an indicator of whether Lee will play tonight.
If he for some reason misses, I really like the Bulls taking points here. Even if he plays though, I still think the Bulls are good enough down low to slow down the Warriors and get the cover. Golden State has a tough time against good defensive teams. Chicago is no different from some of the other strong defensive teams, and even though Golden State has beat them once this season, I think the Bulls are due for a comeback here at home if their defense comes to play on no rest. The Warriors are only 2-5 SU against the Bulls, Grizzlies and Spurs, three of the best team defenses in the NBA.
The Sharp Pick
The Bulls are 7-3 ATS this season when playing on the second night of a back to back, and as home underdogs tonight, I think their value goes up even more on no rest. The sportsbooks are seemingly undervaluing Chicago at home, and overvaluing a Warriors team that is banged up and struggling.
The statuses of Lee for the Warriors and Butler for the Bulls could really make or break this play, but I like Chicago taking point either way it goes. The Warriors are a different team on the road than they are at home, and going up against a good defensive team like the Bulls won’t help their cause tonight. Kirk Hinrich is a solid defender and will at the very least slow down Stephen Curry. After Curry, there isn’t much scoring on this team if Lee still can’t go. Lee is expected to join the Warriors in Chicago, however his status for tonight’s game is still up in the air as of this morning. If Lee sits again, I really like the Bulls to cover for our NBA pick in this match-up.
My Pick: Bulls +3
