With less than a month away from the end of the Regular Season, teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls are falling out of contention, now is the perfect time to take a look at the updated Futures Book odds for the Eastern Conference marketplace.
Candidates Who Can Dethrone King James, Cavaliers in East are Limited
The 2016/17 NBA Regular Season will end on April 15 with the NBA Playoffs tipping off on April 18 and it sort of seems this year the Western Conference may now be more wide open than the Eastern Conference with LeBron James and the world champion Cleveland Cavaliers looking like the team and roster to beat again despite King James chirping about wanting more players (he got them in Kyle Korver, Deron Williams, Derrick Williams, Andrew Bogut and Larry Sanders) and doubtful thoughts someone like the Boston Celtics or Toronto Raptors might be able to somehow knock off the Cavaliers in a 7-game series. Not this season.
So maybe the one team with a legitimate shot at dethroning Cleveland are the Washington Wizards? With PG John Wall playing at such high level, SG Bradley Beal (23.2 ppg) and C Marcin Gortat (11.0 rpg) maturing nicely and others Wizards coming into their own, this evolving team can score with anyone and might be the only Eastern team worth considering outside Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and the Cavs.

Big Eastern Conference Odds Movements, Conclusions
Since the last update, the NBA odds to win the Eastern Conference have changed dramatically for some with the Cavaliers dropping from -600 to a bettable -300, with the Wizards now +750 from +8000, the late-charging Miami Heat now +5000 from +40000 and “no-shot” status and the Detroit Pistons at +5000 from +12000. So oddsmakers and bettors have a little more hope for some of the potential sleeping giants in the East.
