By the Numbers is a weekly NBA picks column that focuses on historical trends, game time matchups, and the prevailing odds. Let's take a look at this small NBA slate and cash some winners!

Heat (9-9 SU, 7-9-2 ATS) vs. Bulls (3-14 SU, 6-9-2 ATS)

* Chicago is 0-7 ATS in their last seven after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

* Chicago is 1-6 ATS in their last seven games following a straight up loss.

* Chicago is 1-4 ATS in their last five games as an underdog of 5.0-10.5.

* Miami is 23-11-1 ATS in their last 35 games following an ATS win.

* Miami is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games as a road favorite of 5.0-10.5.

* Miami is 20-7 ATS in their last 27 road games.

The way Chicago has been playing this season, I'm not sure what the NBA odds makers could do to seduce me to back the Bulls. But one thing I can tell you is that getting seven points at home after being blown out by an average of nearly 40 points over their last two games is not going to do the trick. The Bulls were measurably better last season than this year's iteration yet even the 2016-2017 Chicago edition lost 100-88 as seven-point home chalk to Miami the last time these teams met in the Windy City.

Hassan Whiteside may not play in this game due to lingering knee issues but the line on this game tells me he will be suited up and ready to go. He brings a potent rebounding game to the table, averaging nearly 13 boards per game, and leads the team in blocks. If Whiteside doesn't suit up, this will be a less appealing wager even though the point spread won't be quite as high on the visitors. Regardless, watch the Heat torch the Bulls and cash another one of our NBA picks!

Nets (6-12 SU, 11-7 ATS) vs. Grizzlies (7-11 SU, 6-12 ATS)

* Memphis is 0-6 ATS in their last six games following a straight up loss.

* Memphis is 7-19 ATS in their last 26 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

* Memphis is 0-7 ATS in their last seven games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

* Brooklyn is 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a straight up loss.

* Brooklyn is 4-1 ATS in their last five Sunday games.

* Brooklyn is 8-1 ATS in their last nine games as a road underdog of 5.0-10.5.

The Grizzlies have not only lost their last seven straight games but have failed to cover the number in each and every one. Meanwhile, the Nets have lost three of their last four but have covered the spread in three of those four contests. The public perception is that the Nets are still the laughingstock of the league when reality says otherwise. This is an improving team and although they are by no means playoff contenders, they are a gritty bunch that has been a friend to those who have backed them this season, having covered 11 of their 18 games thus far.

The last time these clubs met in Memphis it was the Nets claiming a 122-109 victory as 10 ½ point road underdogs. While they may not be getting as many points this time around, it's hard to ignore the trends and the fact that the Grizzlies are playing miserable basketball. Take the points and bet the road pups here.
