By the Numbers is a daily column featuring Swinger’s top selections according to historical trends and game time matchups. Let’s review the top pick for Monday's matchup and cash in our NBA picks.

Trail Blazers (38-38 SU, 36-40 ATS) vs. Timberwolves (30-45 SU, 34-41 ATS)

* Minnesota is 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a straight up loss.

* Minnesota is 2-7 ATS in their last nine after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

* Minnesota is 2-7 ATS in their last nine after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.

* Minnesota is 2-7 ATS in their last nine games overall.

* Portland is 5-1 ATS in their last six after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

* Portland is 6-0 ATS in their last six games as a favorite.

* Portland is 5-0 ATS in their last five games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

* Portland is 7-0 ATS in their last seven when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.

I'm still scratching my head as to why the oddsmakers are assigning the Timberwolves as the favorite in this matchup. Obviously, the T-Wolves have home court advantage and Blazers' center Jusuf Nurkic is sidelined but aside from that, the numbers are telling us that this game is all about the Trail Blazers. Consider that Portland has won and covered six straight and nine of their last 10 contests. Needless to say, the team is on their biggest roll of the season and just in time for the playoffs.

On the other hand, we have the Timberwolves who have lost and failed to cover seven of their last nine games. In their last outing, Minnesota was humiliated in front of the fan friendlies courtesy of a 123-117 loss to the lowly Sacramento Kings as 12 ½ point home chalk. This loss was not completely surprising as Minnesota has won and covered just two of their last nine games.

These clubs have met twice this season and both times the Trail Blazers have come out on top and delivered ATS winners for those backing them in their NBA picks. On New Years Day the Blazers flew into the Twin Cities as six-point road dogs and flew out with a 95-89 victory. Fast forward to March 25th  as the venue shifted to Portland and the Blazers once again outpaced the Wolves 112-100 as six-point home chalk. Tonight we are back in Minnesota but the results will be the same as the Trail Blazers are vying for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West against a club in Minnesota that is planning vacation destinations after next week.
