1st Round Eastern Conference Winners

The oddsmakers have not yet come out with series prices but let’s take a walk a few weeks in the future before the best ballers on the planet do their thing. As we gaze into our crystal ball we see the following first-round results in the East:

#1 Boston defeats #8 Chicago (4-1) – The regular season series between these clubs is tied at two games apiece. However, when the postseason begins, historically it’s a different story. The Celtics are 14-3 straight up against the Bulls in the postseason. We see Boston cruising in the opening round with the home court advantage helping their cause as the C’s are 2-0 both straight up and ATS including their last meeting when the Green crushed Chicago 100-80 as seven-point home chalk.

#2 Cleveland defeats #7 Indiana (4-2) – The Cavs took three of four against the Pacers this season and delivered a 2-2 ATS record for those backing Cleveland in their NBA picks in those contests. But the Pacers got spry as the season wound down with five consecutive straight up wins and six straight ATS covers. This may not be the walk in the park that many believe it will be as Indiana hung around in their last meeting on April 2nd against LeBron and company, losing 135-130 yet covered as 8 ½ point road dogs.

#3 Toronto defeats #6 Milwaukee (4-0) – The Raptors won and covered three of four against the Bucks this season and I don’t see this playing out any different in their first round postseason matchup. Toronto has won six of their last seven (4-3 ATS) heading into the playoffs and Milwaukee does not pose any threat to getting their second round ticket punched.

#5 Atlanta defeats #4 Washington (4-3) – I see this series as the only upset in the first round of the Eastern Conference. The Hawks sat out their stars in the final game of the regular season which proved to be a 105-86 thrashing in Indiana. However, if you ignore what was essentially a scrimmage game then you will see a team that has won and covered six of its last eight. Though the Wizards did win three of four (2-2 ATS) in the clubs’ regular-season meetings, we believe a healthy Paul Millsap will help the Hawks win a seven-game series in this one.
