Bulls vs. Celtics: Faulty Offenses Make 'Under' Our NBA Pick

After falling on our faces last night, I am ready to jump back on the train tonight with some more winning NBA Picks. One of those is the Bulls & Celtics playing from TD Garden tonight.

Bulls Backfiring?
It’s still way too early in the year to know what you have with this Bulls team, which is always one of the biggest wildcards in all of the NBA. After firing Tom Thibodeau, the Bulls seemed to think that he was the source of all their problems. Through 20 games, it appears like Thibodeau might have been one of the only things going right for this team, because this team has issues.

Most recently it was on display Monday night, as they blew a double-digit lead to lose to the Suns at home. The Bulls have been known over the last year and change to lose to teams they are supposed to beat, or as I call it, playing down to their competition. They can beat the Spurs one night and then lose a few nights later to the Hornets or Suns.

Tonight against the Celtics in Boston, the Bulls should have no problem getting up for this game. These two teams have had some fun playoff battles in the past, and neither has forgotten it even though most of the Celtics weren’t there for it. The people of Boston also have a love affair with taunting Joakim Noah, so expect the Bulls to at the very least be engaged for this game.

The Sharp Pick
My buddy, Charles Stark has the Celtics tonight laying the points, and while I don’t disagree with him, I think there is a better play on the NBA odds board, and it’s the total of 200½. You can still get this number at Heritage, as well as at WagerWeb, and I think it’s a much better play than what could be a volatile spread tonight.

Stark is right that the Bulls are one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA, and while I believe the fix for that is trading or benching Pau Gasol, it will limit the amount of second chances the Bulls have tonight on offense. Furthermore, the total tonight presents great trends from both of these teams. Combined on the season, Boston and Chicago are 25-14 cashing the under. While they haven’t been rebounding the ball well, the Bulls are still currently top five in the league in Defensive Rating, and Boston is one of only a few teams ahead of them in that category. Even though the trends from seasons past point to the over, and even with both teams playing at paces that rank inside the top ten, the under is the best NBA pick tonight.

The under has cashed in eight of the last 10 games for the Bulls, and the under has hit in four of their last five road games. The Celtics, on the other hand, have cashed the under in five of their last seven overall games, and in four of their last six home games. One of these teams is going to have a poor offensive night, and it might be the Bulls. Chicago has reached the 100-point mark in their last three road games.
