Two of the hottest players meet up today in Chicago when Russell Westbrook and the Thunder visit Jimmy Butler and the Bulls. Oddsmakers have made Chicago a small home favorite, but where is the value in this matchup?

Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City is coming off a win at home versus Denver after losing three games in a row on the road. They’ve actually lost their last four games on the road and I don’t think things get easier for them tonight. Russell Westbrook has been absolutely incredible this year but I don’t think he will be able to do enough tonight for them to pull off the road win. On the season Oklahoma City is averaging 106.8 points per game which rank them eighth in the NBA, but they are allowing 105.3 ranking them 18th.

Offensively they have been decent across the board currently hitting almost 46% from the field and just over 51% on their two point shots. However, from beyond the arc, they have been atrocious hitting just 33% from distance ranking them second to last in the NBA. On the other side of the ball, Oklahoma City allows opponents to shoot 45.4% from the floor which ranks them 20th, but more alarming is they are allowing 47.9 points in the paint which rank them last in the NBA. They have not played very well on the road recently, and I don’t expect them to turn things around tonight.

Chicago Bulls

Jimmy Butler has been red-hot for Chicago and they come into this contest on a three-game winning streak. I was impressed with them the other night how they battled back against a very good Toronto team to take the game to overtime and eventually win. On the season they have been much better defensively than they were last year allowing just 101.2 points per game which rank them sixth in the NBA.

As well, their defensive statistics have been solid ranking third and ninth in the NBA in opponent shooting efficiency and effective field goal percentage respectively. Offensively they have not been very efficient and like Oklahoma City, they don’t shoot from distance particularly well. However, with them playing good basketball right now and being at home I like for them to pick up another win.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs Chicago Bulls

Oddsmakers have come out making Chicago -1.5 a favorite at home versus Oklahoma City, and for my NBA pick, I will take Chicago in this spot. Although it’s never easy to bet against Russell Westbrook Chicago is playing good basketball right now and I expect them to win this game going away.
