Chicago is not going to the playoffs and Portland is, but tonight they have something in common. Both are road underdogs and worth taking with your NBA picks.

Just a few days ago Brooklyn won 124-96 in Chicago, and in this spot they are -7.5 favorites on the NBA odds board. Despite that beating, though, for my NBA picks in this matchup I will take Chicago plus the points. In that last matchup Chicago was coming back home after really tough loss against the Celtics and simply did not play very well, shooting just more than 40 percent from the floor and 20 percent from distance. On the other side, Brooklyn was out of their mind, shooting 50 percent overall and almost 40 percent from distance. Statistically speaking, although Brooklyn is a bit better defensively, both teams match up quite evenly on the offensive side of the ball. Currently Brooklyn is shooting 44 percent overall, but surprisingly that drops to less than 44 percent at home, while the Bulls are hitting at about that same clip both at home and on the road. Although there is no reason to believe Chicago can win this game, they have played better basketball over the past couple weeks, winning three of their last four games. Expect them to play a lot better and keep this game relatively close.

This will be a tremendous matchup of two playoff-bound teams, and Denver is a -4 home favorite on the NBA odds board. Once again, with my NBA picks I will take the points and look for Portland to possibly pull the upset. In their last matchup Denver snuck away with a 104-101 win at home in January, and I look for something similar tonight. Although Denver’s home numbers are superior to Portland percentage-wise when they travel, these teams match up very well, which makes me believe this game will go to the wire. Portland has ramped things up on the defensive end this season. They rank second, third, and fourth in the NBA in opponent two- point shooting percentage, opponent shooting efficiency, and opponent overall shooting percentage, respectively. Denver has been no slouch on the offensive side and has picked things up over the last couple of weeks, currently riding a five-game winning streak. However, defensively they are the worst in the NBA, allowing opponents to shoot 47.8 percent from the field. Look for this game to go to the final shot.
