The average bettor will look at this game as a good chance to bet a live dog. Washington has gone 9-3 straight up and against the spread since losing five-time All-Star point guard John Wall to injury, while Milwaukee has gone a middling 3-3 straight up and 2-4 ATS over the last six contests. The last time these two tangoed at the BMO was in November when the Wizards trounced the Bucks 99-88 as 3½-point road dogs. Looks like all lollipops and sunshine for the Wizards tonight. However, the NBA odds tell a different tale, installing Milwaukee as 3-point home favorites and we think we know why.

Let’s face it, losing your best player is a long-term negative even though the temporary results may indicate otherwise. Wall is a special talent, but the Wizards have been able to buckle up and get the job done without him. Yet, his absence will eventually come to bear, and it should be noted that Wall played in the three previous meetings between these clubs and had a team-high 27 points in Washington’s 104-95 loss in its last meeting with the Bucks. In fact, the Wizards have lost two of three to Milwaukee this season with Wall in the lineup and have been unable to contain Milwaukee’s dynamic power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Greek Freak has demolished the Wizards in 2017-18 in averaging 28 points and over 13 boards per game. In their last meeting, Antetokounmpo bucketed 27 points and 20 rebounds leading his team to a nine-point victory as 5½-point road underdogs.

Lastly, this is the front end of a back-to-back for Washington and they must board a plane after this game is over to face the Golden State Warriors back in D.C. tomorrow night. This game is critical for both clubs jockeying for the No. 4 seed in the East to establish home-court advantage in the first round, which could very well pit these two in that series. Let’s back the Bucks to cover the number in our NBA picks and claim the season series 3-1, which would be the tiebreaker in the event these teams are tied after 82 games.
