In a game in which Golden State can basically name the score oddsmakers have made them a huge favorite over the lowly Brooklyn Nets. With basically no chance of an upset can Brooklyn at least stay within this big number?

Brooklyn Nets

In their only matchup this season Brooklyn went into halftime versus Golden State up 65-49, only to get crushed in the second half and lose by 16 points. What was alarming in that game was not simply the fact they got destroyed in the second half but the fact that they had 26 turnovers. On the season, for how bad they are, Brooklyn has actually been decent on the offensive end ranking in the middle of the league in most categories highlighted by shooting 50.5% on their two-point shots which ranks 11th. They also have been decent in knocking down their share of three-pointers averaging 11 per contest which ranks them fifth in the NBA, on the other side of the ball is where they really struggle though ranking dead last in the NBA allowing 114.2 points per game.  However, statistically, their overall defensive percentages are not horrific. With the recent trade deadline having past and Brooklyn making a few moves it looks like they are squarely focused on the future. Although we can expect a decent beat down this is a pretty well-coached team that still plays hard and I expect them to stay within the number.

 Golden State Warriors

Like their first matchup in Brooklyn, Golden State battled back from a lackluster first half to take care of business at home versus the Los Angeles Clippers the other night. For me this game is not really even about handicapping the numbers but handicapping the situation as I can’t imagine Golden State will come into this game really fired up to destroy a Brooklyn team that is arguably the worst in the NBA. The Warriors rank first across the board in every major offensive category and their defense is starting to pick things up. So the question becomes for me at least, how bad do they want to dominate tonight? The answer for me is probably not much and I expect after they get up big they will rest a lot of their starters and cruise to an easy victory.

 NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have come out making Golden State a huge -22 favorite, which actually makes sense. Still, for my NBA pick, I’m going to back Brooklyn plus the points. Despite being one of the worst teams in the league Brooklyn can be scrappy at times and looking over their last couple months of play they have been reasonably competitive. Expect them to just squeak under this number.
