Two somewhat formidable units face off against one another on Saturday, as the Nets’ recently surging offense takes on a newly healthy Heat defense in Miami. Even though the Heat seem like a valuable play ATS, the better one might be on what is a very los first-half total.

Without their first round pick this year the Nets are floating in NBA purgatory, and the only thing that will help them climb out is winning games and helping their collective pride.

Now on Saturday they have a tall task. Hassan Whiteside is back and helping Miami shore up their defense, and with that the Nets may find it harder to score inside. If the Nets are knocking down 12 three-pointers that will be another discussion, but at least for the first half, I could see the Heat matching pace with the Nets.

Brooklyn is playing the 8th-fastest pace in the first halves of road games this season, and even though their overall offense has been bad on the road, at least since the All Star Break things are improving. Take a look at their most recent win over the Magic.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen></iframe>"}[/]

The Nets are moving the ball and hitting the open shot, and since the break their offensive rating in the first half has been a stellar 112.1 at a pace of 102.7. Even the Heat’s defense is going to have trouble slowing down the Nets if Brooklyn can keep moving the ball and getting transition buckets.

He best part is even if the Nets get hot on offense, their defense is going to be nowhere near up to par to stop Miami. Even though Brooklyn has some good individual defenders, they are a mess in the paint, and the Heat will likely live there on Saturday. Look for the first half to be faster and higher scoring than the total suggests.
