Last night was a very successful day if you followed along with my picks. We finished 5 of 7 on our Monday action, but our big bet of the night (Spurs -3 vs Raptors) should def be enough spoils to hold you over for some betting action for the rest of the week.

Things we learned last night: The Grizzlies are legit and now boast wins over the Warriors and the Rockets. The Greek Freak may have ended the MVP discussion already and The San Antonio Spurs have not lost a single step. Let’s look at some of the action tonight and see if we can keep this winning streak going.

Nets vs Magic, Orlando favored by 3.5

The Orlando Magic and the Brooklyn Nets are two of the more surprising teams to start the NBA season, as they both come into tonight’s game with 2-1 records. These two teams already met last week in Brooklyn, and the Nets came out victorious in a close-knit high scoring battle 126-121.

That game saw Nikola Vucevic score 41 points in a losing effort, as the Nets rallied in the 4th quarter to outscore the Magic 37-30. The Nets had a balanced scoring attack in their first game without Jeremy Lin, lead by DeAngelo Russell and newcomer Demarre Carroll who had who had 17 points apiece.

The Nets have struggled on the defensive end this season allowing 121.7 points per game, which is ranked 29th in the NBA. If the Nets do not ratchet their defense up soon, these hot early start will soon be fleeting.

Bulls vs Cavs, Cleveland favored by 15.5

The Chicago Bulls appear to be in a tier with the Phoenix Suns as the worst teams in the NBA and that does not bode well for them going into Cleveland and facing a team that is coming off an embarrassing loss to the Orlando Magic.

The Cavs will be fielding a new starting lineup that includes J.R. Smith instead of Dywane Wade after Wade reportedly went to head coach Tyronn Lue and requested that he come off the bench. Wade is averaging a career-low 5.7 points per game, and the idea behind moving him to the bench is to allow him to be able to handle the ball more and be the playmaker that we have come to grow and love over the years. That move is two-fold because it gives the Cavs a much better shooting option on the floor to play next to Lebron James. Smith Is coming into this game shooting only 15% from beyond the arc so hopefully, a return to normalcy in his role bring s a return of his jump shot.

Pelicans vs TrailBlazer, Portland favored -3.5

The Pelicans are coming off of their first win of the season against the lowly Lakers and Lonzo Ball, while the Blazers are coming off a heart breaking loss in which Giannis did Greek Freak things to totally take that game over in the final minutes.

This matchup consists of two teams who on complete opposite end of the spectrum in terms of roster construction. The Blazers are built around their two dynamite guards, CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard, while the Pelicans have dominant big men in DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis. This matchup will come down to which ancillary players will have the better outing. My guess is that a proven veteran like Jrue Holiday will have a better opportunity to impact the game on the perimeter, than a younger Jusuf Nurkic will in the paint.

Jazz vs Clippers, Clippers favored by 3.5

This might be the best basketball matchup of the night. Both the Jazz and the Clippers have started out the season consistent, as expected and the result of this game will certainly have an impact on playoff seeding come April.

The Clippers have gotten a new identity in the absence of the ball-dominant Chris Paul and have turned into a defensive juggernaut with their new point guard Patrick Beverley leading the point of attack and picking up opposing guards 94 feet away from the basket. Coming into tonight’s game the Clippers are only giving up 90 points per game whic h ranks first in the NBA in terms of point allowed. Utah is not too shabby themselves on the defensive end as the only give up 94 points per game, good for fourth in the league. The Jazz defense is anchored by Defensive Player of the Year candidate Rudy Gobert, and he is more than capable of protecting the rim against the force that is Blake Griffin.

Offensively the Clippers took a little bit of a hit when the lost Milos Teodosic for a few weeks to a foot injury, meaning they will have to rely heavily on Lou Williams to be that guard scoring punch off of the bench. The Jazz offense seems to be coming into their own sans Gordon Hayward, because they are featuring Joe Ingles much more and he is proving the Jazz faithful to be correct in giving him a big money extension this summer.

Ingles is averaging 14.7 points per game and shooting a blazing a 63.2% from 3-point range. Look for Ingles to have continued success against a Clippers team that is shaky when it comes to wing defenders.
