The Boston Celtics are hoping to get back on track after watching their four-game winning streak evaporate in a narrow loss to the Pacers on Saturday night. Let’s evaluate their chances against the red-hot Nuggets on Monday night.

Boston Celtics (6-3 SU, 4-5 ATS) at Denver Nuggets (8-1 SU, 6-3 ATS)

Monday, 9:00 p.m. ET (NBA TV)

Free NBA Pick: Celtics - ATS

Best Line Offered: 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3569740, "sportsbooksIds":[19,1096,93,1275,180], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Boston dribbled into Indiana as 3 ½ point road favorites and hobbled out with a gut-wrenching 102-101 loss that was cinched with just seconds remaining, courtesy of a three-point dagger struck by Victor Oladipo. It was a game that the Celtics shouldn’t have lost but a few hiccups down the stretch cost them the victory, despite a balanced attack in which five Celtics notched double-digits on the scorer’s sheet. Marcus Morris came off the bench to lead the Green with 23 points while Kyrie Irving managed 18 and connected on four-of-seven from beyond the arc.

Denver fans have struck gold with their Nuggets, as the team that was on the playoff bubble last season is at the top of the standings after the first month of this season. The surprising turnaround has been a consummate team effort with Denver’s top four scorers all within three points of each other in points per game average. Fourth-year man Gary Harris is leading the team with an 18.9 PPG average, despite struggling at 27 percent from three-point land, and led all scorers in Denver’s most recent victory, a 103-88 win over the Jazz in front of the home crowd. It was their second consecutive double-digit win and bettors backing the Nuggets in their NBA picks have watched Denver cover in six of their nine games this season.

We would have to go back to the end of January to find the last time these teams met. In that game the Celtics traveled to Denver as 1 ½ point underdogs and the game was as hotly contested as the NBA odds board indicated it would be with Boston taking an ever so narrow 111-110 win on the road. Kyrie Irving led all scorers that night with 27 points as Boston regained their footing after struggling to a 1-5 straight up mark in their six previous games. But tonight, the Celtics aren’t struggling, despite their recent setback in Indiana, and their opponents are absolutely thriving. This game will be all about defense as Boston checks in with the top defensive unit in the league, allowing just 99.8 PPG, while Denver owns the No. 3 ranked defense and surrenders 101.9 points per game. Both teams are in the top 10 in rebounding, averaging 48+ per contest.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Marcus Morris continues to bring it for our team, as he recorded a new season high of 23 points against the Pacers. ;/a>
— Boston Celtics (@celtics) 4 de novembro de 2018
\n"}[/]

If we check out the numbers, we see that Boston has some intriguing trends working in its favor:

Celtics are 5-1 ATS in their last six vs. Western Conference.

Celtics are 13-3-1 ATS in their last 17 vs. NBA Northwest.

Celtics are 14-5 ATS in their last 19 games following a straight up loss.

Celtics are 14-5 ATS in their last 19 games following an ATS loss.

Celtics are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.

This should be a defensive battle and although Denver has made improvements to their second unit this season, providing more depth, this does not have the air of a championship contending team. This is a squad that has committed to playing defense but eventually their lack of scoring power will be their undoing. Boston has far more talent and is 2-1 both straight up and against the spread over their last three meetings in the Mile-High City. Boston will atone for their sloppy play down the stretch against the Pacers on Saturday night and get the outright win on Monday.
