After struggling for a while it seems like the Trail Blazers are starting to turn their season around. Tonight they get to show how much they’ve improved as a take on the league’s best team in the Golden State Warriors. Have oddsmakers given Portland too many points?

Golden State Warriors

Golden State is on the second leg of a back to back after playing at home last night and might be in for tougher battle than people realize. Prior to their home game last night they were on the road for four straight going 3-1. It is easy to see why they are the favorite tonight as Golden State can simply be absolutely dominating at times and they rank first in the league in every important offensive category. They have been tremendous from the interior extended and are starting to incorporate Kevin Durant rather well. On the other side of the ball percentages they have picked things up from the first couple months of the season and currently rank first in the NBA in opponent shooting efficiency and allowing opponents that you just 43.2% from the field. The percentages are pretty amazing when you consider the tempo that Golden State likes to run at which is high paced from the opening tip. Although they are 2-0 versus the Trailblazers this season, look for things to get really interesting tonight in this matchup.

Portland Trail Blazers

Portland is currently on a three-game winning streak after losing four straight, and they catch Golden State on a back to back while they are on rest. They simply have not played as well as last season and most of their numbers have dropped on both sides of the ball. Still, this is a team that can get really hot in an up-tempo contest which is exactly but we’ll see tonight. Currently, they rank in the middle of the league in most offensive categories shooting 45.5% from the field and 36% from distance, but all their averages go up at home. On the other side of the ball, they will have to step things up and I believe they have the personnel to do that. One good note is that they have been much better than average allowing opponents just 48.7% of their two-point shots which ranks fifth in the NBA. With the situation as it is, I think this is great value on backing a talented Portland team that if they get hot could possibly pull the upset.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have come out making Portland a +8.5 underdog and I think that is just a bit too much.  For my NBA pick, I will take the Trailblazers here to continue playing tough basketball and make this game interesting.  Don’t let the Warriors blow out last night throw you off.
