What a matchup should we be in for when the Warriors and Cavaliers square off in Cleveland tonight. The odds favor LeBron and company, but is that the right side to take with our NBA picks?
Though the Warriors have the best record in the NBA, they're classified as the NBA betting odds underdogs for tonight's trip to Cleveland. The Cavaliers are favored by 3.5 points in the posted on their home court in this spot.
Want to make a play on the total? Get ready for a high-octane game, as odds makers have posted a total of 213.5 on the board. Considering how much pure talent will be on the court tonight, it's hard to poke holes in that number, even with as high as it looks at first glance.
All of a sudden, the Cavaliers are charging up the Eastern Conference standings, thus putting a ton of pressure on the rest. They've improved to 36-22 overall, which is pretty amazing given they were at 19-20 only a matter of weeks ago. Cleveland is on a serious roll at the moment and appear to only be getting beter and better.
There's still plenty of work to be done, however. Though the Cavs are only a game and a half behind second-place Toronto, they're a whopping 9.5 games behind Atlanta. The Hawks are proving to be the cream of the crop right now, but it wouldn't be all that surprising if they're given a serious challenge by LeBron's Cavs as the regular season begins to wind down. That's just how good Cleveland has been of late.
More recently, the Cavs are on a three-game winning streak, which was topped off by a nice nine-point road win over a solid Detroit team that just added Reggie Jackson. Kevin Love had a big game, as did LeBron James, and that was the catalyst needed to keep the good times rolling for the Eastern Conference contenders.
Golden State Warriors
After a brief one-game absence, it looks like all is well with superstar Stephen Curry. He went off in Golden State's recent road win over the Wizards, scoring 32 points and dishing out eight assists. The Warriors were tremendously efficient offensively once more, which has become commonplace for Steve Kerr's group.
What kind of follow-up act will we see after Golden State shot 50.0 percent from the floor and 52.2 percent from three against one of the better defnesive teams in the league in Washington? The Cavaliers are good and all, but they've still shown weakness, especially defensively, so one would figure the Warriors have to be liking their chances of putting up at least 100 points once again.
As long as Curry remains healthy, Golden State is going to keep winning and winning. They've built up a four-game lead atop the loaded West and now have an opportunity to make another statement about one of the East's best.
While the Cavaliers have been one of the hottest teams in the NBA in recent weeks, the Warriors have been the best team throughout the season. And, when given the chance to get them at a juicy underdog price, we can't help but jump on it.
Assuming Curry is good to go, Golden State will be our choice in this situation. The Warriors have done just fine on the road throughout the year and have alreayd picked up a number of impressive victories away from home. We also think Golden State has far more chemistry overall at this juncture, with Cleveland getting a lot better in that department but still having a ways to go.
This Warriors team is very familiar with each other and they've got a number of guys who can step in and contribute. Depth should come in handy here, so let's add Golden State to our NBA picks for this quiet Thursday evening.
