This experienced NBA handicapping professional examines the total in Monday’s game between the Lakers and Kings keeping in mind that neither team is fighting the Playoffs race this year.

Lakers and Kings playing for Pride
The Sacramento Kings will host the Los Angeles Lakers tonight at 10:05 PM ET. According to the NBA odds, Sacramento is a 4.0 point favorite, and the posted total is 207.0. This will be the third meeting of the season between these division rivals, and they split the first two games with the home team winning on each occasion. Both of these teams have been far removed from playoff contention, each has two games remaining in the regular season, and they will play each other again on Wednesday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Both Teams playing on the High Side of the Number
The Los Angeles Lakers enter tonight having gone over the total in six of their last nine games. The Lakers have allowed 105-points or more in eight of those previous nine contests. They’ve also been able to score 100-points or more in each of the last four games. The Lakers have gone over the total in ten of fourteen this season versus division opponents, and those contests averaged a combined 215.1 points scored per game.

The Sacramento Kings have gone over the total in each of their previous five games, and there was a combined average of 213.8 points per game scored. The last two Kings games have produced 219 and 233 combined points being scored. Sacramento has gone over the total in eight of nine this season following two straight games in which there were 215 or more points scored. Those nine contests averaged a lofty 222.5 points scored per game. The Kings have scored 101-points or more in fifteen of their last twenty-one overall, and allowed 101 or more in seven consecutive contests.

NBA Totals Betting Angle
The Lakers currently have a winning percentage of .263 and the Kings are at .338. This sets up a very profitable totals betting angle that I’ll utilize when making one of my NBA picks on Monday.

Any NBA game being played in the second half of the season with a posted total of 200.0 to 209.5, and both teams have a winning percentage of .250 to .400, has seen 60 of those 88-games (68.2%) go over the total during the past five seasons.
