Damian Lillard and the upstart Trail Blazers play host to Avery Bradley, Isaiah Thomas and the Celtics at the Moda Center on Thursday night. Portland is favored by 3 points on the NBA odds board.

This is a big, inter-conference affair with the C’s eyeballing a 4th-place finish in the Eastern Conference and Homecourt Advantage for at least the First Round of the Postseason. Let’s look at the L10 meetings in this series and weigh any Trends, Injuries or other realities for this affair and provide an NBA pick or two from the findings in this NBA game in which the sports gambler can at least feel both teams will be giving 100% and that the best starting lineups will be out there.

Odds Overview
Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers (39-36 SU, 24-12 Home) welcome Isaiah Thomas and the Boston Celtics (43-31 SU, 18-19 Road) to the Moda Center in Portland on Thursday night for the second and final Regular Season meeting between these two teams who have both had impressive seasons, thanks in great part to the team’s two solid and underrated NBA Head Coaches, Brad Stevens and Terry Stotts.

Oddsmakers Offshore have opened the host Trail Blazers up as 3- to (The Greek) 3½-point favorites in this game with the Total (Points) opening up at 215 (The Greek). The Money Line odds see Portland priced at -161 (Pinnacle) with the visiting Celtics lined at +145 on the takeback as the Road underdog.

Boston Celtics
Heading into play on Thursday night, the Boston Celtics (39-34-1 ATS, 18-19-0 ATS Road) and Head Coach Brad Stevens find themselves in 5th place in the Eastern Conference and just a ½ game behind the 4th-place Miami Heat (43-40) and potential Homecourt Advantage in the Eastern Conference. In their last game, the Celtics were defeated by the Clippers in Los Angeles, 114-90 on Tuesday night as the hosts ran out to a big 67-50 Halftime lead and handed the Celtics the Loss, tying them Record-wise with the Charlotte Hornets as the Regular Season winds down.

Boston (105.6 AF-102.1 AA) was led in scoring by G Isaiah Thomas (26 points) but SG Avery Bradley (13 points) was the only other C’s starter who helped points-wise while Marcus Smart (13 points) was the only Boston (5-5 L10) Reserve player in double-digits. C Kelly Olynyk (8 points, 5 rebounds) came in off the Bench and is working past his Shoulder injury and played 23 minutes, so, both the Celtics (100/1 to win NBA title, Sportingbet) Starters—Amir Johnson, Jared Sullinger and Evan Turner combined for just 16 points in the Loss to the Clippers in which Boston shot just 34.8% from the Field—and Bench will have to play much better here to get the Win over the Trail Blazers as well down the stretch to try to move up to 4th place. SF Jae Crowder (Knee) was listed as Questionable (on Wednesday) and the only Injury concern for the visitors and logic says he’ll end up playing in a game of such importance.

Portland Trail Blazers
The Portland Trail Blazers (41-34-0 ATS Record, 19-17 ATS Home) and Head Coach Terry Stotts are in 6th place and Portland has pleasantly been one of the best teams to bet on in the NBA this Regular Season, but at 39-36 SU, this team still actually has to worry about making the Postseason in the Western Conference Playoff race first. In their last game, the Trail Blazers (250/1 to win NBA Championship, Coral) defeated the Kings, 105-93, as Portland got out to a big lead after three quarters and then coasted to a double-digit win despite being outscored 30-14 in the 4th Quarter here at Home at the Moda Center on Tuesday as four different Portland players ended in double-digit scoring: Backcourt-mates Damian Lillard (13 points) and CJ McCollum (16 points) and  Al-Farouq Aminu (16 points) and Maurice Harkless (12 points).

The Trail Blazers (W2, 5-5 L10) were hot from the Field, going 38-for-80 (47.5%) and Bench G’s Gerald Henderson (11 points) and Allen Crabbe (21 points) showed that this may be the most point-productive group of Guards in the NBA when all are on, like they were against Sacramento. Portland C Chris Kaman (Illness) is listed as Questionable for this game while PF Meyers Leonard (Shoulder) is Out for the Season.

Trends, Recent Relevant Series Information over L10 Meetings, Revenge-tinted Picks
In the L10 meetings in this series, the Celtics are 6-4 ATS as well as 6-4 SU, W2 ATS and SU, including the first meeting this season in Boston where the Celtics rolled, 116-93 as 6-point favorites on the NBA odds board (220½, Under). So Revenge will be a motive for Portland (41-34 O/U) here. The L3 games in this series have all gone Under the Total and the Under is 6-4 over those L10 meetings. This is a game where Boston could be tired from all the Travel and 3 Hour Body Clock difference from EDT to PDT, and getting crushed by the Clippers and having so much trouble getting scoring is dismaying and a huge reason to lean toward the Trail Blazers—especially on the Moneyline (-161, Pinnacle)—who really need the Win here. And the hosts will remember the last time Boston (35-39 0/U) invaded the Rose Garden (Jan. 22, 2015) and left with a 1-point win, 90-89. Not this time, you Beantown boys.

The Celtics are 3-8-1 ATS in their L12 games played on a Thursday and Boston is an impressive 15-6 ATS over the L21 meetings (71.4%) in a Trend with some actual muscle on the bone. The Over is 7-1 ATS in Portland’s L8 Thursday games while the Under is 39-17-3 in the Celtics L59 Thursday dribbles while the Celtics are 23-18-1 ATS playing on 1 Day Rest and the Trail Blazers are 21-22-0 ATS on 1 Day Rest.

With the Favorite 7-2 ATS over the the L9 meetings in this once-again thrilling inter-conference series and with Portland getting solid scoring from Reserves G’s like Crabbe and Henderson, exacting that aforementioned Revenge against the Celtics will be the plan here in a classic starting Guard duel between Lillard-McCollum and Thomas-Bradley although it could be the Site, long distance from Home and expectations of a Loss that doom Boston here who will have to play fantastic Defense to get the Road upset.

The Trail Blazers will be motivated by Fear and the 1st Half will speak volumes as if the C’s can’t get enough scoring out of guys like Sullinger, Johnson, Turner and Olynyk like Tuesday, then Portland could end up rolling like the Clippers did. This is a strange part of the Regular Season and a tough spot on the schedule for Boston, no matter what the recent ATS history, but the Celtics need should keep it fairly close.

Final Score Prediction: Trail Blazers 107 Celtics 101
