The Orlando Magic fought well last night but could not get past the Houston Rockets. Today they play another good Texas team with the Mavericks, who are favored by NBA odds -12.
It’s a very small sample size, but the Mavs have looked really good over their last two games. They blew out the Clippers 129-99 at home this past Friday, and then after a couple of days off they beat the Thunder 119-115. The offensive firepower that we came to expect from the Mavs seems to be back, and it could have some big implications on tonight’s NBA Odds. If the Mavs can come through again with that high scoring, the over might be one of the better plays of the evening.
It seems to have all started after the Mavs got blow out by the Cavs a week ago yesterday. However now it finally seems as if Rajon Rondo is getting acclimated to the Mavs. In their two most recent wins, Rondo has come up big in both of them. He had seven assists and four steals in their win against the Clippers, and two nights ago against the Thunder Rondo went for a double-double with 11 points and 13 assists in 33 minutes. If he can keep it going for the rest of the season, this trade is going to look a lot better by the playoffs. So far in a Mavs uniform Rondo has been almost a disaster, but now with Chandler Parsons back and shooting the ball well, along with all the other talented players on this roster, the Mavs could surprise some people in the playoffs.
The Sharp Pick
However tonight against a weaker team coming off the back to back, I think the best play fro this one is the over. As I mentioned in yesterday’s article, in the month of March the Magic have given up well over 106 points per game, and against a team like the Mavs, that 106 might turn into 125 tonight. If that’s the case, it doesn’t matter if the Magic have a bad night on offense, because the Mavs will have enough scoring to cash the over by themselves.
In their first meeting this season, Dallas scored 108 points in Orlando in a win, and dating back a few years, six of the last eight times these two have played, the total has gone over. On top of that the over is 11-5 for the Magic in their last 16 games this season against teams with winning SU records. Placing NBA picks over has also cashed in five of the last eight games for the Magic, and in three games in a row for the Mavs.
While the Magic do have some nice mismatches tonight including Nikola Vucevic going up against Tyson Chandler, the Mavs provide much more of a mismatch that the Magic do. Chandler Parsons is probably too fast for Tobias Harris, and while it should be a nice battle both ways, Monta Ellis should find ways to score on Victor Oladipo tonight after Oladipo went off last night.
