While it's true the Rockets have been excellent and the Knicks have been awful so far this season, we think the best NBA betting value may come with New York tonight. Find out why inside.

Odds Overview
Even without certainty that Dwight Howard will be available tonight, it's not going to change much in terms of the NBA odds. The Rockets are clear 8.5-point favorites at a lot of the top sportsbooks, and that's not a line that's going to budge much we believe.

A total of 193 is on the board for now and it seems to be holding still too. While the Knicks have been middle-of-the-road defensively, that's where Houston has shined - the Rockets are second in the NBA in points allowed per game (92.2) heading into Monday night's contest at home.

Houston Rockets
Following back-to-back losses, one of which came at home to the lowly Lakers, the Rockets recovered by beating a strong Mavericks team two nights ago.

Houston was the home underdog coming in, but a huge night from James Harden propelled the Rockets to the straight up win and cover for backers.

In the 95-92 win, Harden put up 32 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while also picking up two steals. He shot 8-of-18 from the floor, 4-of-9 from three and 12-of-13 from the charity striple in another all-around dominant performance from the two guard.

Houston also got 20 points and five boards from an unlikely source: point guard Patrick Beverley, who isn't exactly known for his offensive contributions. Donatas Motiejunas started and had 14 points and 12 rebounds in 38 minutes of play, with those three more than making up for a poor shooting night from Trevor Ariza, who was 2-of-10 for seven points.

The Rockets now stand at 10-3 for the season, though they're still second in the Southwest Division behind the surging Grizzlies. Houston's defense has been the catalyst in 2014-15, and they would obviously be boosted by the return of Howard, who has been out with a knee issue. He's currently considered questionable, while Terrence Jones remains out.

New York Knicks
It's hard to find many positive things to say about the Knicks, who have struggled out of the gate to the tune of a 4-10 record.

Nonetheless, we're in the business of taking advantage of weak spots in the NBA odds, and we think this is a good situatino to take a New York team that's still adjusting to new surroundings. They've got a new coach and a new offensive system, and it's going to take time for them to adjust.

The Knicks enter tonight's game having gone 2-2 over their last four with wins over the 76ers and Nuggets and losses to the Bucks and Timberwolves.

On Saturday they topped Philadelphia 91-83 at home, with Anthony dropping 25 points and seven rebounds in the win. The Knicks shot an even 50 percent from the field and were an impressive 19-of-21 from the free throw line. The only other truly notable individual performance, however, came from Amare Stoudemire, who had 16 points and 11 rebounds in only 20 minutes off the bench.

A statement win over a team like Houston, especially on the road, would do a lot confidence-wise for this New York team. That's going to be a tall task, especially if Howard is able to go, but you never know with a scorer like Melo. He could carry this team to a win by himself if he gets it going.

NBA Pick
As bad as the Knicks have been for the most part this season, we have a sneaking suspicion they'll make a game of it tonight.

The wins haven't been there, but New York has managed to stay competitive out on the road. Let's not forget about their triumph over LeBron and the Cavs in Cleveland back in the first week of the season.

The Rockets have also been struggling a little more than usual as of late, losing two of three, and so there seems to value on the Knicks. We have a hard time seeing them win straight up, but avoiding a blowout loss should be within reach in this spot. Back Melo and company woth you  NBA picks tonight.
