The Los Angeles Clippers got wrecked on Sunday while the Dallas Mavericks rested. That makes Monday’s NBA pick pretty simple – can Dallas do their part?

Jason’s 2018-19 NBA picks: 12-12 ATS, 0-2 ML (minus-4.35 units), 17-8 Totals

Dallas (26-33 SU, 34-24-1 ATS) at L.A. Clippers (33-28 SU and ATS)

Monday, 10:30 p.m. ET (NBA-TV)
Free NBA Pick: Mavericks ML
Best Line Offered: 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3569834, "sportsbooksIds":[19,1096,999996,93,999991], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

If this were any other game, it would be a lot tougher to choose who belongs in our NBA picks. There’s a lot to like about both the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers, especially from a value standpoint after their wheeling and dealing at the trade deadline. But Monday’s matchup has a twist: The Clippers are playing the second leg of a back-to-back situation – and they had to travel, too, after losing 123-96 to the Denver Nuggets as 9-point road dogs.

The Mavericks were idle Sunday, although they’re also licking their wounds after getting cracked 125-109 by the Utah Jazz (–11.5 at home) on Saturday. That’s four straight losses SU and ATS for the Mavs; maybe they’re not so valuable after all following their recent clearout. Let’s dig deep, peel back the layers, and get to know the real story behind Monday’s NBA odds.

He Lives On The Second Floor

Sadly, those odds are still pending as we go to press. Luka Doncic (plus-3.8 BPM) is questionable for this matchup with a sore right ankle; he didn’t play Saturday, nor the previous game where Dallas lost 114-104 to the Nuggets as 7-point home dogs. That’s kind of important. In theory, the Mavs should have even more betting value when their best player is out of the lineup – we expect the marketplace to over-react in these situations. But I’m not so sure the market understands just how good Doncic already is, or he would have played in the All-Star Game.

If Doncic suits up, let’s stick with the program and throw a few stotinov at the Mavs. They still have one of the best ATS records in the league, and at first blush, they look more valuable after shipping Harrison Barnes (minus-2.6 BPM), Dennis Smith Jr. (minus-2.1 BPM) and Wes Matthews (minus-0.9 BPM) out of town. Granted, DeAndre Jordan (plus-2.5 BPM) was also moved prior to the deadline, and Tim Hardaway (minus-2.4 BPM) hasn’t helped much since landing in Dallas. Yeah, let’s not follow the Mavs in this one unless Doncic plays.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

When you tune into a Dallas Mavericks game and Luka Doncic is out tonight pic.twitter.com/9KO5N1Edfb
— Joe (@1stNameJoseph) February 23, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

Again, the Clippers would probably have value here if they weren’t playing on zero days of rest. They absolutely killed it at the deadline, sending Tobias Harris (plus-1.5 BPM) to Philadelphia and getting a nice collection of players and draft picks in return. Even better, they got rid of Avery Bradley (minus-2.9 BPM), who has angered the efficiency gods ever since he set foot in the NBA. Too bad the schedule’s not in their favor. As always, see who comes out for the morning shoot-around, bet accordingly, and may the sphere be with you.
