The San Antonio Spurs take a 5-game winning streak into New Orleans Friday night to face hobbled Anthony Davis and the Pelicans in a Southwest Division date. With San Antonio 20-4 SU and 15-8-1 ATS on the road, this seems like a better spot to back the Spurs.

San Antonio Spurs vs New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans (18-28 SU, 23-23 ATS) welcome the San Antonio Spurs (36-9-0 SU, 27-17-1 ATS) to the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Friday night for this Southwest Division matchup between 2nd- and 11th-place Western Conference teams. The NBA odds see the Spurs 5½- to 6-point point favorites with the total at 211 while the money line odds have San Antonio at -211 with New Orleans +237 underdogs.

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs have been absolutely fabulous on the road this Season, going 20-4 SU, 15-8-1 ATS and with head coach Gregg Popovich sitting Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard (Hand) and Pau Gasol (Finger) in a 108-106 win over the Raptors with LaMarcus Aldridge (21 points) and reserves Patty Mills (18) and Davis Bertans (12 points) leading the charge for the visitors (TOR -3, 203) Tuesday night. So, expect a rested San Antonio bunch here with the reserves confident from getting so much valuable playing time in the 1st Half of the season.

The Spurs are 12-2 ATS L14 vs. teams with losing records, 15-7 ATS L22 vs. the Southwest, 7-1 ATS their L8 Fridays and 17-5 ATS L22 overall but just 3-8 ATS L11 on 2 Days Rest. The Over is 7-0 San Antonio’s L7 vs. the Western Conference, 20-8 the L28 after an SU Win and 7-1 L8 overall while the Under is 11-3 the L14 games against the Southwest Division.

New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans are just 12-12 SU at Home this season and the host’s 1-6 divisional and 6-15 conference marks are a big reason why this team is almost 10 games under .500 and fading.

The Pelicans are 4-0 ATS L4 following an SU Loss, 23-8 ATS L31 Home vs. a Road team with a Winning Percentage .600+ but 8-20 ATS L28 Friday games and 1-6 ATS L7 vs. the Southwest. The Under is 4-0 L4 New Orleans games but the Over is 10-4 its L14 Fridays, 36-15 L51 Home and 34-16-1 L51 vs. Western Conference.

Technicals Favoring Pelicans, Under, But...

Anthony Davis, who has been dealing with a quad injury and was listed questionable on Thursday night, and the Pelicans are 16-5 ATS L21 in The Big Easy, 7-3 ATS L10 meetings and 4-0 ATS L4 at the Smoothie King Center. On the other hand, the Home team is 31-12 L33 in this series, so technical edge Pelicans.

The Under is 5-2 L7 in New Orleans and 4-1 the L5 in the series, so this a collision between the a rested Spurs team playing great on the Road this year in a situation where they have failed to get the money of late.

But this seems that it could be a tough spot for New Orleans with Popovich probably intent on getting his normal starters back—including Leonard, who practiced Thursday but is still is a question mark—into the flow which could result in a higher-scoring game due to a frenetic pace and some confident Spurs Reserves.
