Let’s be honest, those of us making NBA picks knew the Los Angeles Lakers would not be good forever, but did anyone who daily follows the basketball betting odds think they would see this!

What has essentially happened at the Staples Center is the Lakers became the Clippers of old and the Clippers have become the Lakers. Save Kobe Bryant, if the current players wearing purple and gold were to don Los Angeles Clippers uniforms from say 10 to 20 years ago, even experienced NBA basketball handicappers would not know the difference.

No matter, the team that originated in Minneapolis will play Golden State so let’s start breaking the teams down.

The Lakers are Riding on the Wrong Buss
Since the now late Dr. Jerry Buss turned the franchise over to his one sons Jim, who handles the day to day operations, it’s been all downhill.

As mentioned, every team in any sport is going to eventually have some lean years, but the Lakers have started the season 1-8 (4-4-1 ATS).

A review of the roster is a telling story. Bryant (25.4 PPG) might be a legend, but his skills are eroding on both ends of the floor. Carlos Boozer (13.7 PPG) has not played a lick of good man to man defense in years and his offensive game lacks the explosion at 32 years old.

Jordan Hill (13.2 PPG) is putting up decent numbers at center, but staying on the floor has always been on issue for him. Starting forward Wesley Johnson (8.4 PPG) never made it in Minnesota and Jeremy Lin (13 PPG) continues to bounce around the league.

The bench is no help and head coach Byron Scott, another former Laker from the glory days, has stated publicly he’s not sure with these players if he can improved the No. 28 field goal percentage defense inside or outside the arc that allows the most points in the league at 109.4 a game.

This is franchise being run into the ground by the ownership without a plan to turn it around. With Los Angeles just an ordinary offensive team (100.1 PPG) that does not play defense, they will have troubles all season long.

Warriors Off to Fast Start, Still Can Improve
The Pacific Division leaders feature the NBA's best scoring duo with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combining to average 48.5 points. The dynamic twosome ranks in the Top 6 in scoring in the league.

First-year Steve Kerr has worked on greater offensive efficiency with Golden State and their shooting percentage is up to 49.4 percent compared to 46.2 percent last season. The adjustments are found in running plays from certain areas on the floor and as those making sports picks using Team Rankings.com find the Warriors second in two-point field goal shooting at 54.3 percent.

Kerr compared to Scott has starting lineup options open to him. He’s been using Curry, Thompson, Harrison Barnes, Draymond Green and Andrew Bogut. But with David Lee coming back from a strained hamstring, he might need to find a spot for the multi-skilled player.

In addition, with Andre Iguodala averaging career lows of 5.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game coming off the bench, Kerr might want to insert the former All-Star into the starting lineup to get him going in the not too distant future.

Golden State is 7-2 and 6-3 ATS, but they are dead last in the league in turnovers at 20.2 a game and by Kerr’s own admission, his team will get “wild” with the ball as opposed to valuing more possessions. No matter how well the Warriors can shoot, all those turnovers make it hard to consistently beat the NBA odds.

Betting Odds
The early line from sportsbooks has Golden State at -9 with a total of 210.5

Scheduling
Golden State clobbered Charlotte at home last night 112-87 as 11.5-point favorites and early in the season are 1-1 SU and ATS playing with no rest. After this division matchup the Warriors will not play again until Friday.

Los Angeles lost to San Antonio on Friday 93-80 as eight-point home underdogs and beginning Tuesday will play three games in four days on the road starting in Atlanta. The Lakers are 0-3 and 2-1 ATS with a day between games.

Head to Head
Golden State has won four and covered four of the last five meetings including 15 days ago, winning 127-104 as two-touchdown home favorites. The SU winner is 9-1 ATS since April of 2012 and the last eight meetings find the total evenly divided.

The Choice
When choosing your NBA picks its worth noting that the line seems very fair, but with the Lakers being more rested without having to travel, I think somehow they will slide under the number and get the cover in an offensive contest.
