After a demoralizing loss to the Los Angeles Lakers at home, the Detroit Pistons look for vindication as they face an equally ineffective team in the Boston Celtics who are also coming off of a loss on Tuesday. The Celtics are the slight betting favorite due to home court advantage. See who we like as our betting pick in this matchup.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm ET tonight at TD Garden Bank Arena in Boston, Massachusetts. Currently, NBA odds list the Celtics as a 5 point betting favorite and the total for the game is listed at 203.5.

Can't "Beat L.A."
The Pistons loss to the Lakers was much worse than the Celtics loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Although a loss is a loss, the Pistons had a great situation at home and against a team that allowed 111.1 points per game in the Los Angeles Lakers.

If they can't beat Los Angeles in their home building, they're capable of losing any game. Detroit was losing by double figures and even though Josh Smith was having a big time performance, Pistons head coach, Stan Van Gundy, left the starters out of the entire 4th quarter due to the fact that the bench got them back into the game.

Vandy Gundy Rules
He had several chances to insert Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings back into the game, but Van Gundy took a pass and stayed with the bench.

This decision making is part of the reason why the Pistons are a 3-15 squad. Josh Smith, who has played very well lately, finished the game with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. I look for him to come out strong against Boston as he can't be too happy about missing the 4th quarter and the Celtics style of play fits his game well.

Look for a big game out of Smith along with Andre Drummond, who was well on his way to a double-double, before getting lifted. Boston doesn't have a consistent inside presence who can deal with Drummond who is averaging 10.5 points, 11.9 rebounds and nearly 2 blocks per game.

Someone has to win here as the Pistons have lost 9 consecutive games while the Celtics have dropped 5 consecutive games.

Is Rajon Rondo the Problem?
It's very difficult to say that a guy that almost averages a triple-double on the season is the reason for the Boston losses, but last night's game was a perfect example.

Jeff Green and Jared Sullinger both scored over 20 points against Atlanta while Rajon Rondo finishes the game with 2 points. His shot wasn't falling, but Rondo doesn't look to shoot. He also finished yesterday's game with 12 rebound and 19 assists. If Rondo forced the issue a little more offensively last night, Boston would've won that game and broke their losing streak.

For the season, Rondo is averaging 8.8 points, 11.1 assists, and 7.7 rebounds. If this Boston team was more competitive like the championship team that Rondo was on, he would look to shoot the ball more. He doesn't have the incentive to keep shooting on a 4-11 squad and as good a player that he is, his lack of field goal attempts will cost Boston some games.

You can expect more of the same. Rajon Rondo will be setting up the Celtics forwards and not looking for his shot. If his shot "is on", then he will look to shoot a bit more and this will enhance Boston's chances of winning the ball game.

I failed to mention guard Avery Bradley, who is having a spectacular season at 14.4 points per game as the 3rd scoring option. Unfortunately for Boston, it just hasn't been enough. Tonight, they face a team in a worse position than they are.

Although Stan Van Gundy was a wonderful coach with Orlando, he's been awful with Detroit and  has been part of the problem. He has Greg Monroe, a blue collar, double-double player coming off the bench and this has hindered Monroe's game. Poor decisions have added to the poor play that we see on the court and Boston is in a better position coming into this game. Even though they need to just win a game, We are sure that for this NBA pick Boston is capable of covering the spread.
