Ben Simmons improving his jump shot is key to the success of the Philadelphia 76ers this season.

If Simmons doesn't improve his shooting he won't be able to take the next step for his team. The star point guard spoke about adding a 3-point shot to his game during media day yesterday:

"It's part of the game," Simmons told reporters. "If it's open, I'll take it."

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

25 DAYS πŸ‘

Ben Simmons put in work with his jumper this summer πŸ”₯ (via @swishcultures_) ;/a>
β€” NBA on ESPN (@ESPNNBA) September 27, 2019
"}[/]

Not only has he been a poor shooter in his career but what's more concerning is that Simmons has refused to shoot 3-pointers altogether. Simmons attempted just 11 3-pointers in 2017-18 and six in 2018-19.

Last season his only shots from beyond the arc were when he had no choice due to a lack of time on the clock and this hesitation let his opponents dictate his offense.

This did not stop Simmons from becoming an NBA All-Star but it can hold him back from helping the 76ers go far next season.

Head coach Brett Brown told Philly Voice that he was impressed by the progress that Simmons has made with his shot:

"The time that he has invested over the course of this summer is the best by a longshot that he ever has," Brown said. "His awareness of this thing in the marketplace, he’s prideful, he gets it. His confidence that I saw when he came back to Philadelphia and played in our gym over the last few weeks just stood out, it shone as if he had invested time and he was looking forward to showing us."

Simmons agreed to a five-year, $170 million maximum contract extension with the 76ers on July 15, a deal first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Ben Simmons worked out in Los Angeles with renowned NBA trainer Chris Johnson, Celtics guard Jaylen Brown, Mavericks guard Seth Curry and Timberwolves guard Andrew Wiggins. All of them appeared in Johnson's Instagram story.

In addition to the sessions with Johnson, Simmons also worked out with his teammate Tobias Harris, who raved about what he saw from him:

"He's in the gym religiously every day, grinding and getting better - he's in great shape. Everybody was trying to figure out why I was guarding him at the 3-point line. It's really because he hit two of them - I dared him to shoot two of them [3-pointers] he hit two in a row so, that's why I was there. He's made big improvements on his game - his jump shot is looking really good, he has the confidence to shoot it."

Odds To Win The Eastern Conference
(Courtesy of 5Dimes)

Milwaukee Bucks +170

Philadelphia 76ers +225

Boston Celtics +800

Brooklyn Nets +865

Indiana Pacers +1250

Toronto Raptors +1500

Miami Heat +2500

Orlando Magic +4500

Atlanta Hawks +9000

Detroit Pistons +10000

Chicago Bulls +18000

Washington Wizards +50000

New York Knicks +50000

Cleveland Cavaliers +75000

Charlotte Hornets +100000
