This season the Rockets and Warriors have split the two times they have met up, surprisingly with both winning their game on the road. Can Houston do a better job in protecting their home court?

Golden State Warriors

After going through a couple of bumps in early March it seems like Golden State is back on track winning their last seven games in a row. Those games have not been against the type of offense in which they will see today in Houston but I think anytime you can get this team at close to a pick they are the right team to back. The difference will come on the defensive side where Golden State actually plays some compared to Houston which does not. Currently the Warriors rank first in the NBA in opponent effective field-goal percentage, opponent shooting efficiency, and opponent overall shooting percentage. The point of contention tonight of course will be can they defend from beyond the arc where Houston averages 40.3 attempts per game which ranks first in the NBA. I believe they will be able to considering the fact the Warriors also lead the league defensively allowing opponents to shoot just 32.8% from distance. This will be a great matchup of two really good teams that both can put up points in a hurry, but only Golden State actually brings some defense to the table.

 Houston Rockets

Houston has been an offensive monster this year under head coach Mike D’Antoni with James Harden at the point but I think things will get a little difficult for them tonight. Like Golden State they have been playing some really good basketball these last couple of weeks and are 7-1 and their last eight games averaging close to 120 points per game in those wins. I have no problem with them offensively as they rank right up with the Warriors in most categories, but on the defensive side it’s a completely different story. Houston ranks in the bottom third of the league in most categories highlighted by ranking 27th in the NBA allowing opponents to shoot 51.9% on their two-point shots. Although they do defend from beyond the arc decently well I simply don’t believe it’ll be enough to stop a Golden State team that seems to be rolling right now. Although they are at home, and offensively efficient, I have a hard time believing they can beat Golden State tonight.

 NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have made Houston a -1 favorite in this spot which makes some sense considering how well they have played this year and they are at home. However, for my NBA pick, I will take the Golden State Warriors to win this game straight up. They are simply the better team period.
