The Spurs are my NBA pick to win the 2016 Championship. But to do that, they’re going to have to win the best 2 out of 3 series from OKC, then defeat Warriors & the Eastern Conference champs.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs
Though that’s only 10 wins in 17 games, it will be no easy feat.

Tonight, they take on the OKC Thunder in San Antonio in game 5 of their best of 7 round 2 playoff series. It was on this court in game 1 that the Spurs routed OKC 124-92. But the results have been far different in the previous three games. OKC stole game 2 on this court 98-97 in a wild final 15 seconds of play. The Spurs prevailed, off that loss, 100-96 last Friday, running their record to 11-4 ATS for the season following a defeat. But OKC evened the series at 2 all with their 111-97 victory on Sunday.

In that game, Kevin Durant went off for a career playoff high 41 points. In the second half alone, Durant had 29 points on 10 of 13 shooting, including 17 points in the fourth quarter, making all 6 of his shots. That was one more point than the entire Spurs team scored. Durant was not alone, as Westbrook, vowing to get his teammates more involved, scored just 14 points, but dished out 15 assists. Waiters added 17 points, while Steven Adams stepped up with a 16/11 night. 57% shooting in the second half ensured the victory.

The new big three of San Antonio, Parker, Leonard, and Aldridge, all had 20 point nights, but it was not enough. The 53-45 Spurs halftime lead was short lived in the face of the Thunderous second half by OKC. While the Spurs had shot 44% from behind the arc in the series, they were able to convert just 2 of 12 three pointers on Sunday, while dishing out an uncharacteristic 12 assists.

Betting Conclusion
San Antonio was clearly outplayed in the second half of game 4. Now returning home, and with a history of being one of the more resilient teams in the NBA, I expect a huge bounce back in game 5. This is a Spurs team who is 43-2 on their home court this season, is playing off a previous home loss, and with right back revenge for being obliterated in the fourth quarter.

Spurs show why they warrant being my choice for this year’s NBA Champion, as they get the victory IN A LOW SCORING GAME.  I invite you to put the NBA odds in your favor and join me in my NBA picks on the San Antonio Spurs tonight.
