Two of the weakest teams in the West will meet up on the court tonight, with the Jazz having the luxury of being at home and therefore the NBA odds-on favorites.
If you want to pick the Jazz against the spread, they'll have to win by at least six points to make it worth your while. Utah will be at home and is thus favored by 5.5 points for tonight's date with Sacramento.
A total of 197 has been released to the public for now, but there's plenty of time for those lines to shift even more until tipoff. Keep checking back the NBA odds in order to follow the movement and get the possible number out there. It's all about maximizing value.
The Jazz have lost three straight and six of their last seven, which as a result has them at 17-33 overall. That's good for the 13th seed in the Western Conference. Needless to say, it's been another forgettable season for Utah, a team that has a lot of young talent but can't seem to make the most of what they've got.
With the likes of Gordon Hayward and Derrick Favors, Utah should be a lot more competitive than they have been, especially when you throw in other young and competent players like Rudy Gobert, Enes Kanter and Trey Burke. The injury to Alec Burks has proven to be tough for the Jazz to overcome, however, and they've been getting torn apart in the highly competitive West night in and night out.
It's all about building for the future for this Utah team, so the immediate results are going to leave a lot to be desired. Hayward has quickly become of the best young players in the NBA, but the overall consistency to Utah's game has been poor, and that's put them in a lot of tough spots throughout the season.
The Kings know all about turmoil. They've gone through a ton of it over the years, and it hasn't really been all that different this season. They had a promising start but are now 17-31, as they've gone a dreadful 1-10 over their previous 11 games.
More immediately, they've gotten totally destroyed in their each of their last two contests. First they got blown out by 25 against Golden State and then the same happened at home against the Mavericks in a 101-78 rout. If you're a Sacramento fan, you've been feeling down lately, and for good reason. The Kings have been a complete mess under Tyrone Corbin and there doesn't seem to be much hope for the future, aside of course from the stellar play of DeMarcus Cousins.
Cousins has pretty much been the only highlight for the Kings, aside from a standout performance from Rudy Gay here and there. Cousins' dominance has kept Sacramento competitive on many nights they shouldn't have been, and we're eager to see if that holds true again tonight.
We don't feel good about any play in this game, to be perfectly honest.
A total play seems off the table, as there doesn't appear to be much of an edge with either the OVER or UNDER. The only play we feel somewhat confident in is the Kings, as they're getting a good chunk of points to contend with here tonight, and it's not like the Jazz have done much to deserve the favorites tag. They've been struggling in a major way too and really only have home court to fall back on in this situation.
With Cousins leading the way and some support from Gay, we believe Sacramento will keep tonight's game close. As a result, we're taking the dogs and backing the Kings at +6.5 as our NBA picks.
