The Bucks have been much improved under Jason Kidd, but we think the hot Pistons will be able to come in and not only win but cover the short spread as the NBA odds-on favorites. Check out our preview of the game.
The NBA odds really vary depending on the site, but for the most part, we find the Pistons favored in a range starting by one point and going up two a spread of two in some instances.
Wanting to make a play on the total? Best of luck to you: these two teams are difficult to peg on a consistent basis, but it should be noted Miliwaukee has been much improved defensively under Jason Kidd this season. The O/U is sitting at 195.5.
The Bucks are 21-21 overall this season, but have lost consecutive games and have also dropped three of their last four. Their two straight losses have come at home against Utah and Toronto, so Milwaukee is hardly going through their best run of form right now.
It was a hard-fought contest against Utah. They lost 101-99, with the Bucks not doing enough down the stretch to get the win. They shot 45.7 percent from the field overall, but seemingly weren't aggressive enough, as they only went to the free throw line 12 times, whereas Utah was 23-of-28 from the line. Milwaukee got double-digit scoring out of five different guys, but no one player scored more than 16 points, and then the defense had a hard time stopping Enes Kanter, Gordon Hayward and Rudy Gobert.
It's been a downward spiral recently for the Bucks, and now the schedule's about to get a lot tougher too. We wouldn't be surprised if Milwaukee found themselves dropping down the standings over the next couple weeks, as they'll tangle with the likes of San Antonio, Miami, Portland and Toronto soon. More pertinent to our discussion, it's not like the Pistons have been an easy matchup lately either, so the Bucks could very well pick up their third straight L this evening.
Since a 5-23 start, the Detroit Pistons have recovered a good deal of pride, as they can now say they're 17-26 on the season. That means they've gone 12-3 over their last 15 games, a large chunk of that coming since the departure of Josh Smith, who's now with the Houston Rockets.
Detroit also has the benefit of having been off since Wednesday's win over the Magic. The Pistons shouldn't have any tiredness to complain about when they visit Milwaukee as the NBA odds-on favorites. In that recent victory over Orlando, the trio of Brandon Jennings, Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond was brilliant yet again.
Jennings had 24 points on 10-of-21 shooting and dished out 21 assists, Monroe racked up 24 points, 10 boards and four dimes, and Drummond tormented Orlando for 26 points, 17 rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Those three essentially did everything for the Pistons in the W and will be counted on again tonight.
We don't exactly love the idea of backing either one of these teams to be honest. But, it's hard to deny how much better the Pistons have looked recently, so we're going to give them the nod with our recommendation.
With Smith out of the picture, Detroit has shown much better unity, and the results have been much more positive as a result. Go figure. Monroe and Drummond have been beasts inside for the Pistons, while Jennings has been playing a lot better as well. When those three have been clicking, Van Gundy's team has been tough to stop.
So, with Milwaukee not performing so well lately and Detroit still plugging along, we're going to take advantage of a small number and side with recent form. Back the Pistons for your NBA picks, who should be nice and rested, to win by at least two points tonight.
