We all know the Pelicans are going to be leaning heavily on Anthony Davis, especially now that Tyreke Evans is hurt. Will New Orleans be the our preferred route with our NBA picks tonight?
The Nets may have lost three in a row, but they're still favored at home for tonight's visit of New Orleans. The NBA odds board currently shows Brooklyn laying 2.5 points, but be sure to check back later on today to see if the lines have shifted at all. You never know if that extra half point or point will make all the difference.
Want to try your luck on this game's total instead? The O/U is at 191 at the moment, so clearly odds makers think we'll be in for somewhat of a defensive battle this evening.
The Nets went through a very positive stretch recently which saw them go 4-2 in a six-game run, with wins over Golden State and Dallas mixed in there. However, they've since gone cold again, dropping three consecutive games heading into tonight.
Making matters worse, all three games were at home, as Brooklyn fell to Charlotte, Phoenix and then Utah. It has truly been a rough patch of performances for the Nets, and they've subsequently fallen to 25-36 overall. They're two and a half games back of Charlotte for the eighth and final spot in the Eastern Conference, so they can't afford to keep dropping games like this, especially on their own court.
This will be the last home game for Brooklyn before an upcoming four-game road trip, a trip that includes trips to Cleveland and Miami. It won't be easy, so the Nets should know the importance of getting a win here to build up some momentum and good vibes. Brooklyn is pretty much at full strength now that both Deron Williams and Jarrett Jack are healthy again, while Brook Lopez has been playing well recently too. Who will be the standouts tonight against Anthony Davis and the Pelicans?
New Orleans Pelicans
Forgive us, but most of this blurb is going to focus on Davis and just how good he is. He pretty much carried the Pelicans on his back last night, guiding the road team to a 114-103 victory in Milwaukee. He had 43 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, two blocks and a steal in 41 minutes and hit countless clutch shots down the stretch to put the game out of reach.
If Davis keeps playing like this, New Orleans could find a way to sneak into the playoffs, even in the highly competitive West. Indeed, the Pelicans have been one of the hotter teams in the NBA recently, having gone 8-2 over their last 10 games. That includes wins over the likes of the Grizzlies, Raptors and Heat (twice).
Unfortunately for New Orleans, Tyreke Evans hurt his ankle in last night's win, and it's looking like he'll be unavailable tonight. That means Norris Cole is likely to slide into the starting five, and will also mean both Anthony Davis and shooting guard Eric Gordon are going to have to assume most of the offensive responsibility.
We don't love the idea of backing the Nets, but they appear to be in a very good spot tonight.
The Pelicans took part in a back-and-forth, highly competitive game last night and we think they'll have heavy legs for this trip to Brooklyn. They're also going to be without their best perimeter player in Evans, and that's a massive blow. Unless Davis and Gordon go off, it's going to be very tough sledding for New Orleans.
Brooykln meanwhile is a little more rested, will be at home and has to be chomping at the bit to get out there and end this losing streak. Back the Nets to win by at least three this evening wiht your NBA picks.
