The last time Charlotte met with Detroit they played to an incredible 115-114 final. In today’s matchup, can Charlotte, who is modeled after Detroit, stay within the number?

Charlotte Hornets

Head coach Stephen Clifford is a protégé of Stan van Gundy and these two teams have traded blows going 5-5 the last 10 times they have met up. Although SVG is my favorite coach in the NBA I think there is good value in grabbing the points with the Hornets in this spot. On the season their offensive statistics have been lacking averaging just 104.5 points per game and shooting just 43.9% from the field good for just 29th in the NBA. Still, they do shoot the three decently well at 35.2% and get up plenty of shots beyond the arc averaging 27.9 attempts ranking them ninth in the NBA. It is on the defensive side I think they have a good chance to hang with a Detroit team that is almost a mirror image of them. Charlotte is allowing opponents to shoot just 44.8% from the floor which ranks eighth in the NBA along with allowing opponents just 104.2 points per game which ranks them ninth. Expect for both defenses to step up in this matchup and for this to go down to the wire once again.

 Detroit Pistons

Detroit has really underachieved so far this year in my opinion sitting at 27-30 and fourth place in the central division. They simply have not been very good offensively averaging just 101.2 points per game which ranks them 25th in the NBA, along with ranking 27th in shooting efficiency. Most of their offensive statistics across the board are not very solid and they are one of the worst three-point shooting team’s percentagewise at just 33.5% on the season. Defensively though, they have been better and rank in the top part of the league in most defensive statistics highlighted by allowing opponents just 38 field goals per game which ranks them seventh in the NBA. They can be really tough at home but I have a hard time believing they can beat Charlotte by a big number considering their offensive woes on the season.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have come out making Detroit a -4 favorite in this spot but, for my NBA pick, I’m going to take Charlotte plus the points. Look for the Hornets to possibly even pull off the upset but at worst take this game to the final buzzer.
