Andre Iguodala & Dwight Howard Headline Top Buyout Candidates

Andre Iguodala and Dwight Howard would be appealing free agency options for contenders like the Rockets, Lakers and Clippers if the Grizzlies buy them out.

Andre Iguodala

The Warriors traded Iguodala to the Grizzlies, along with a protected first round pick in 2024 (protected 1-4), 2025 (protected 1) and 2026 unprotected as part of the necessary salary dump to create space under the apron and complete a sign-and-trade deal for D’Angelo Russell.

It remains to be seen whether the Grizzlies will trade or buy out Iguodala but it doesn’t look like he will stay in Memphis next season. While the three-time NBA champion isn’t likely to be a starter with a contender, he has valuable leadership skills and he is capable of being a valuable member of a second unit.

Iguodala averaged 9.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 30.0 minutes over 21 playoff games for the Warriors last season and he was a key piece in his six years with the team.

Dwight Howard

The Wizards traded Dwight Howard to the Grizzlies for veteran wing CJ Miles and Memphis is expected to buy him out. Howard played just nine games for the Wizards last season because of a persistent gluteal injury but he was productive when he was on the court, averaging 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds in 25.6 minutes per game.

Those numbers may be way below his career averages of 17.4 points and 12.6 rebounds but they are still respectable stats and he could help teams that are thin on frontcourt depth. There’s nothing linking Howard to any team yet but contenders looking for a legitimate big man could turn to him if he proves he is healthy.
