DeMarcus Cousins just destroyed the 76ers last night and will be looking to inflict similar damage on teh Suns tonight. However, the NBA odds are clearly in Phoenix's favor in this spot.
The Suns are on a roll right now and will be at home for tonight's game, so we can see why they're favored by eight points on the NBA odds board against Cousins and the Kings. Considering the number opened at seven at some outlets, we wouldn't be shocked to see the line keep moving in Phoenix's favor throughout the day.
A lot of points should be scored in this one, as evident by the O/U of 212.5 points. Both the Suns and Kings have been playing at a breakneck pace, so the high number makes sense.
Heading into tonight's game, the Suns have won four consecutive matchups, beating the Knicks, Pelicans, Rockets and Mavericks along the way. They're 38-33 overall, meaning they're still three games back of the Oklahoma City Thunder (who have also won four in a row) for the eighth and final playoff spot.
It could very well come down to the wire, but one thing we do know is Phoenix needs to keep up these winnings ways to have any shot whatsoever of making the postseason. If the team's recent results are anything to go by, however, we wouldn't count them out just yet. Wins over Houston and Dallas prove that the Suns don't intend go down without a fight.
A large deal of credit needs to go to Eric Bledsoe, as he's been the clear number one option for Phoenix, especially since Goran Dragic and Isaiah Thomas were shipped out of town. If Brandon Knight (questionable tonight) can return at full strength and contribute, along with the Morris brothers and other role guys like Alex Len and P.J. Tucker, this team could make some noise.
It's obviously too little, too late, but the Kings have managed to piece together three straight victories and therefore have moved to 25-45 on the season. They've beaten Charlotte, Washington and Philadelphia during this run of theirs and now have their sights set on topping the playoff-hungry Suns.
Sacramento barely survived to win last night's home date with the 76ers, winning by just one. DeMarcus Cousins went off though, piling up 33 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, four blocks and four steals in the win, while Rudy Gay chipped in with 21 points, eight rebounds, three dimes, two blocks and a steal himself. Ray McCallum was the only other King who scored in double figures, so it was pretty much a two-man show for Sacramento.
Assuming both Cousins and Gay are good to go again tonight, we should see more of the same. They've been carrying the load all season long when healthy, and while the team's results have left a lot to be desired, there is at least hope for the future, especially now that George Karl is in charge of the franchise.
While this may seem like a lot of points at the surface, dive deeper and you'll see the Suns have been playing as well as they have all season. They'll be at home and will have plenty of motivation, as they still have a legitimate chance of making the playoffs if they finish strong.
Put it all together and we think Phoenix can run away with this one, especially against a Sacramento team that will be playing its second game in as many nights.
There's a reasonable chance the Kings will rest their top guys, so keep checking the updated news throughout the day. Either way, we like the Suns to pull away and cover this big number at home and will recommend them as one of our top NBA picks for Wednesday.
