Two of the worst bets in basketball so far this season collide when New York's Knicks, 2-8 both SU and ATS, host Denver's Nuggets, 2-6 both SU and ATS, Sunday afternoon at the Garden.

Nuggets-Knicks Betting Odds
Most NBA odds opened New York as a one-point favorite over Denver, with a total of 201; in the early betting the spread held steady, while the total rose to 202.

Nuggets-Knicks Betting Trends
Denver is 4-3 on the totals this season, as Nuggets games have averaged 210 points.

New York is 6-3 on the totals, as Knicks games have averaged 191 points.

Nuggets-Knicks: The Lowdown
After going 37-45 last year New York went off this season, its first under Coach Fisher and his new schemes, with a wins OVER/UNDER of 41. So far, the New York Knicks have had a little trouble adjusting, to say the least.

New York opened this season with a loss to Chicago, then upset Cleveland and beat Charlotte, but has lost its last seven games in a row, to Washington, Detroit, Brooklyn, back-to-back to Atlanta, to Orlando and, Friday night, to Utah 102-100. Carmelo Anthony, who tossed in 46 points for the game, tied the score at 100-100 with a 3-pointer with two seconds left, but the Knicks lost it when Trey Burke hit a 20-footer at the buzzer.

New York shot 48 percent from the field Friday, and only committed eight turnovers, but allowed Utah to shoot 51 percent.

As for the Denver Nuggets, after going 36-46 and missing the playoffs in its first season under Coach Shaw last year, thanks in large part to a bad bout with the injury bug, it went off this season with a wins OVER/UNDER of 42. So improvement was expected. But the Nuggets are off to a slow start, too.

Denver opened this season with a victory over Detroit, then lost six games in a row; at depleted Oklahoma City, back-to-back to Sacramento, to Cleveland and back-to-back to Portland. The Nuggets gave up at least 102 points in each of those games, and 130 twice.

Denver snapped that losing streak with a 108-87 upset of Indiana Friday night, winning SU as a three-point road dog. The Nuggets shot 49 percent from the floor, held the Pacers to just 41 percent shooting and committed just eight turnovers.

Nuggets-Knicks, Statistically Speaking
After giving up 107 PPG last season Denver has allowed 108 PPG so far this season. The Nuggets have also shot just 43 percent from the field and 31 percent from 3-point range, while allowing opponents to shoot 46 percent. And they've basically played foes to a wash on the boards.

New York has only shot 44 percent from the floor this season, but 39 percent from beyond the arc, and 79 percent from the line. Defensively the Knicks have allowed opponents to shot 46 percent, and they've been outrebounded by about two boards per game.

Nuggets-Knicks Recent History
These teams split two games last season, each winning on their home court, but New York covered the spread both games. The Nuggets won in Denver in November 97-95, but the Knicks covered as eight-point road dogs. New York then beat the Nuggs at the Garden in February 117-90, covering as two-point home chalk.

Both those games played UNDER on the totals.

Nuggets-Knicks Free Pick
Neither team has inspired much betting confidence yet this season, but a couple items point us in the direction of New York. First, the Knicks have lost several close games already; they might be ready to turn the tables on someone. And two, Denver might be in line for a letdown, after a big performance at Indiana the other night. So we'll go with the home team, at the short spread for our NBA picks.
