We’ll examine tonight’s NBA contest between Phoenix and Chicago. Take the time to read this very informative betting preview article which culminates with a point-spread selection on this game.

Suns in the Windy City
The Chicago Bulls will entertain the Phoenix Suns on Saturday at 8:05 PM ET. According to the NBA betting odds at Bookmaker, the Bulls are an 8.5 point favorite, and the posted total is 203.5. These teams have seen each of their previous four meetings go under the total, and there was an average of 185.5 combined points scored per game.

Phoenix in Transition
The Phoenix Suns have been slumping badly in recent weeks, losing six of their last seven, dropping their record to 29-26, and are now a half game behind Oklahoma City for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Apparently the Suns front office had seen enough, and made wholesale roster moves on Thursday’s NBA trade deadline. Gone are Goran Dragic and his brother Zoran who were traded to Miami. The Isiah Thomas era in Phoenix didn’t even last a full season, and he was traded to Boston. Tyler Ennis and Miles Plumlee were sent to Milwaukee. The two key acquisitions were point guard Brandon Knight who was averaging 17.8 points per game for Milwaukee at the time of the trade, and Marcus Thornton who comes over from Boston. Ironically, Knight has averaged 20.3 points per game in his last three played in Chicago, and Thornton is averaging 20.3 points per contest in his previous four at the United Center.

Bulls Momentum Temporarily Halted
The Chicago Bulls entered last night’s game at Detroit riding a four game winning streak, and looked to be back on track after going a dismal 5-10 prior to that successful run. However, that momentum came to a screeching stop in last night’s 100-91 loss to the Pistons. The Bulls were plagued by committing 20-turnovers which contributed heavily to the loss. That certainly was out of character for a Bulls team that had committed 12-turnovers or less in six of seven games prior to last night’s contest. Chicago enters tonight having seen six of the last seven, and ten of their last thirteen games go under the total. The Bulls are getting back to their stingy defensive ways, allowing only 90.6 points per game during their last five contests.

Final Analysis
The Suns are coming off a two point loss at Minnesota last night in a game in which they dressed only ten players. Tonight will be a different story since the players they acquired at the trade deadline are expected to be available this evening. However, it would be hard to imagine this will be a cohesive Phoenix team at this juncture, considering all the recent roster moves that have taken place. It will be especially tough against a quality opponent (Chicago) coming off an embarrassing performance last night. My lean will be on the home side for one of my NBA picks on Saturday.

NBA Pick: Bulls -8.5 over the Suns at 5Dimes.
