The Orlando Magic have been horrible this season. As for the Memphis Grizzlies, they haven’t been much better. On Monday night, the two teams will clash in a contest where both teams are desperate for a win to reintroduce some positive vibes.

The Orlando Magic can win because…

The Grizzlies are really banged up right now. Before you make your NBA picks for this game, note that their All-Star center Marc Gasol is out while Ed Davis and Tony Allen missed the team’s last game. The Grizzlies were not a team with a lot of depth to begin with, so this is a lot to overcome if they want to beat the NBA odds.

Memphis has not played well all season long and they look a shadow of the team that played in the Western Conference finals last year. They’ve lost five of seven overall and five of their last six at home. The latter stat is particularly encouraging to those who are considering adding the Magic to their sports picks on Monday.

The Memphis Grizzlies can win because…

The Magic are a mess right now. They started the year with three wins in their first five games but have only won three times in their last 15. On Monday, they suffered a 10-point loss in Houston and losing by double-digits has become commonplace for them. Over their last five contests, they’ve lost by an average of 17 points per game.

The problem for Orlando is their defense has been abysmal this season. They give up 103 points per game, which is the second-most in the NBA. That average has ballooned to 110.4 over their last five. That’s not a recipe for success on the road.

Outlook & Pick

Memphis has been horrible at home (4-7) but Orlando is even worse on the road (1-9). The difference in this one should be defense as the Grizz have the second-best average in the West while the Magic allow the second-most points in the NBA. Take the Grizzlies.
