The Denver Nuggets are in the midst of a 6 game losing streak & are underdogs in NBA odds tonight as they face CP3, Blake Griffin, and the Los Angeles Clippers, who have won 4 games in a row.
Tip-off is for tonight at 10:30 pm ET at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
5 Dimes Sportsbook lists the Clippers as a 12.5 point betting favorite and the total for the game is 214.5. Defense will be secondary as you have guys on both squads that think "offense first", but there's no mistakening that the Clippers are expected to win by a bundle.
Something To Prove
Ty Lawson was quickly beginning to take the next step in reaching that top level of point guards where guys like Russell Westbrook and Damian Lillard sit. That said, reputation is everything and Lawson's stock took a dramatic drop as he was caught driving under intoxication.
Although nobody was hurt, it had to hurt Lawson's pride as he was held in high regard in the NBA. Now, Lawson, must rebuild his off the court reputation and last night was a good start as he contributed 31 points and 12 assists in a 117-115 overtime loss to a good Washington Wizards team at home.
In order for the Nuggets to be competitive tonight, Lawson will have to have another 20-10 game and I expect him to do so. Wilson Chandler and Kenneth Faried must step up as Blake Griffin's numbers have been off the chart as of late. Lately, Faried's numbers have simmered down, but he's capable of coming up huge in a big spot as he's an energy player and a fast-paced game with a total like this will benefit Faried's style of play.
As for Chandler, he came up big last night with 20 points and 9 rebounds. This is a player that you can always count on for a full effort and if the opposing team is not at their best, Wilson Chandler will make them pay.
Scoring at a High Rate
Before placing your NBA pick today, understand that their opponent last night was a Phoenix Suns team that's weak defensively and likes to play these shootouts, but the Los Angeles Clippers have had back to back games of 120 points or more while destroying their opponent in the process. It seems like we're seeing the same thing every night. Blake Griffin leads the team in points, Chris Paul leads the team in assists, and DeAndre Jordan is the leader in rebounds with a daily double-digit effort. This team is in the same spot every season, in excess of 50 wins an then is ousted in the playoffs by one of the elite teams.
I think this team has the potential to be a championship team, but everything has to fall just right. In the meanwhile, with the help of J.J. Redick and his ability to shoot the 3-ball and Jamal Crawford giving the Clips a boost off of the bench, you're going to see the Clippers mow down most of the competition in the regular season as the betting favorite at home and this is the perfect game to fit what I just described.
I was actually leaning towards the Nuggets in this game due to the large spread, but Denver doesn't have a big man after they let Mozgov go and someone needs to matchup against DeAndre Jordan down in the paint. Jordan is averaging 13.4 rebounds per game and there's nobody on the Nuggets squad that can compete against him.
Despite the Nuggets close battles lately, I'm leaning towards the Clippers and the high NBA odds betting spread here. The matchup alone, favors Los Angeles, who have been on a major tear as of late.
