The NBA trade deadline has come and gone. While Anthony Davis remains a Pelican for the rest of this season, there was still a lot of action that moved the future odds, especially in the Eastern Conference.

Winners

Toronto Raptors

After rumors of Marc Gasol being traded to the Hornets surfaced a few days ago, it looked like the Hornets were set to acquire the star big man from the Grizzlies. However, in the 11th hour, the Raptors swooped in after a few big moves by other Eastern Conference contenders and did this:

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Toronto is planning to send Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, CJ Milles and a 2024 second-round pick to the the Grizzlies for Gasol, league sources tell ESPN.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) 7 de fevereiro de 2019
\n"}[/]

While it may not be considered a blockbuster, it was damn close to one. Gasol may not be in the prime of his career anymore, but his defense and passing, along with his steady offense, are going to be huge additions to this Raptors team. Plus, it didn’t take a ton to get him either, which helps maintain that steady bench in Toronto.

Milwaukee Bucks

Before Toronto went in for Gasol, the Bucks made a nice value play of their own to acquire the expiring contract of Nikola Mirotic. While Mirotic has been injured for much of this season, when healthy he is a deadly shooter and adequate defender for the Bucks at both power forward and center.

Plus, this trade makes it easier for them to go small with either Mirotic or Giannis Antetokounmpo causing havoc for other team’s centers. This move will show its’ teeth in the playoffs and it could also make the Bucks the second best Eastern Conference bet right now after the Raptors.

Philadelphia 76ers

If it weren’t for the Raptors’ move, this would have been the biggest move of the deadline. It went down late Wednesday night and by grabbing the best buddies of Tobias Harris and Boban Marjanovic, the Sixers have eliminated their two biggest weaknesses in one move.

They had to dish out a ton of second round picks, but none in the first, which makes this a win for the Sixers. If they can re-sign Harris, it makes it even better, because they gave up very little to get him.

Now they have a staple at power forward and an insurance policy at center behind Joel Embiid. The acquisition of Mike Scott can’t be overlooked either. He is a lights out three-point shooter and is already used to backing up Harris at power forward.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Sources: Clippers and Sixers have agreed to trade Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic, Mike Scott for Landry Shamet, Wilson Chandler, Mike Muscala, 2020 first-rounder, 2021 unprotected 1st via Miami and two second rounders.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) 6 de fevereiro de 2019
\n"}[/]

Sacramento Kings

The Kings made two separate moves that have to be recognized, because both should really help their playoff chances.

They first flipped Iman Shumpert for Alec Burks, which didn’t make a ton of since until the next move came down the next day.

The Kings basically flipped Justin Jackson and Iman Shumpert for Harrison Barnes and Alec Burks, which is definitely a win for them. Jackson has not panned out well and if they can convince Barnes to opt in to his deal next season, the payoff should be huge for this club. It will be especially huge if they convince Barnes to sign an extension in Sacramento.

Losers

Washington Wizards

After signing Otto Porter two years ago to a massive extension, for some reason things have not worked out well for the former third overall pick. He should get every chance to shine in Chicago over the next 2.5 seasons, but the return the Wizards got for Porter is pretty poor.

Jabari Parker has been a disaster in Chicago this season and I doubt he will be in Washington longer than this season. Bobby Portis is an excellent young player and if he stays in Washington it could be a win-win for both clubs. However, he will be due a big contract this summer, so it remains to be seen if he is open to staying in D.C.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

The Washington Wizards are sending Otto Porter to the Chicago Bulls for Bobby Portis and Jabari Parker, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @WatchStadium.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) 7 de fevereiro de 2019
\n"}[/]

Boston Celtics

Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don’t make and for the Celtics, they may have decided to sit out the deadline altogether in order to make a play for Anthony Davis. However, if they can’t trade for Davis, this is a huge loss for Boston.

They came into this season as Eastern Conference favorites. Not only have they not lived up to that, but the three other best teams in the East all got a lot better at the deadline, while Boston did not.

Talk Basketball on SBR's NBA Betting Forum
