After a successful opening weekend, the XFL returns for Week 2 with four more exciting matchups. The second week begins on Thursday night and finishes with a doubleheader on Sunday.

Last week, we were introduced to several new names and were treated to plenty of thrilling plays. Three of the four games were settled by one score, giving us competitive action across the board. The marquee matchup is a Texas battle featuring head coaches Bob Stoops and Wade Phillips.

XFL top picks for Week 2

Spread: Sea Dragons -2.5 (-120 via DraftKings) vs. Battlehawks ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Seattle came up a yard short of winning their first game of the season, falling 22-18 to the D.C. Defenders last week. The Sea Dragons offense did their job for most of the game, gaining 331 yards on 75 plays with two touchdowns. Defensively, they held the Defenders to 177 total yards. Their defense will take on a Battlehawks offense that gained only 190 yards in their first game.

St. Louis trailed for 57 minutes of last week’s game, yet still defeated the San Antonio Brahmas, 18-15. With three minutes left, the Battlehawks scored a touchdown and added a three-point conversion. Then, they opted for and converted a 4th-and-15 possession play. Eventually, they drove 53 more yards for the game-winning score. It will be difficult to replicate that magic should they find themselves down against this Seattle defense.

While most sportsbooks are sitting at a 3-point spread for this game, both FanDuel and DraftKings are laying a juiced 2.5 at the time of this writing.

Moneyline: Defenders (+143 via Caesars) vs. Vipers ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Las Vegas quarterback Luis Perez threw two interceptions that were taken back for a touchdown in his game against the Arlington Renegades. His Vipers would go on to lose, 22-20, in the first game of the XFL’s new season. He will face a D.C. defense that forced three turnovers last week and ran back an interception of its own for a touchdown against Seattle.

The Defenders managed just eight points in the first half of last week’s game, but ended the night with a win against the Sea Dragons. D.C. cornerback Michael Joseph logged two interceptions on the day, running one back for a touchdown. Another defensive effort like that will be key against Perez, who is prone to turnovers himself.

With D.C. as the underdog in this matchup, taking the moneyline offers the most value and Caesars has the best price here. Most other books have this floating anywhere from +135 to +140 for the upset.

Spread: Brahmas -3.5 (+100 via FanDuel) vs. Guardians ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Orlando found themselves at the wrong end of the biggest blowout of Week 1, losing 33-12 to the Houston Roughnecks. The Guardians turned the ball over four times in the loss and scored just two touchdowns all day. Three of them were interceptions, two from backup quarterback Quinton Dormady and another by starting quarterback Paxton Lynch. This Sunday, they face a relentless San Antonio pass rush that sacked A.J. McCarron five times in last week’s game.

The Brahmas could only sit and watch, as the Battlehawks scored 15 unanswered points in the final three minutes of the game. San Antonio dominated most of the game, surrendering just 89 yards of total offense before the last two Battlehawk drives. That same defensive mentality will be what gives them a win on the road this week in Orlando.

With most sportsbooks hanging a 3-point spread for this game, FanDuel offers plus-money on a line of -3.5. That is appealing enough in a game we expect the Brahmas to control from start to finish.

Spread: Roughnecks -3.5 (-110 via FanDuel) vs. Renegades ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Roughnecks opened their season with an impressive 33-12 win against the Orlando Guardians. Quarterback Brandon Silvers threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns. Backup quarterback Cole McDonald and running back Max Borghi added scores on the ground.

But the real star of the game was the Houston defense. That unit recorded seven sacks, three interceptions, and a fumble recovery against Orlando. The Roughnecks were by far the class of the field on opening weekend.

Arlington also leaned on its defense to win in Week 1. The Renegades ran two interceptions back for touchdowns in the second half in their comeback win against the Vegas Vipers. This week, they face a much stronger threat on both sides of the ball. Houston quarterback Silvers did throw two interceptions last week, which could be exploited again this week.

Most of the books make the spread a full 4 points, but you can lay just 3.5 with the Roughnecks on FanDuel.
